I'm in Berwick. I'm trying to make some quality over quantity. I'm dropping hogs out to 450 and looking to find that magic combo to shoot the same everytime since manufacturers are a bit inconsistent with the bulk powders used

So i have decided that it is probably best to buy a Manuel and read and read and write and read. Any ideas I could find a used hornady reloading manual? Figure try and save on a used and spend on the better equipment. I'm a slow reader so maybe by the time i think I can go at it ill have more saved up. Lol

Thx guys, I am amazed on how helpful and welcoming you all have been albeit a bit overwhelmed.

Triggs

I have in my handloading library over 50 books on the subject. Among those are the Hornady 4th edition and the 9th. edition. Out of all of them, The Hornady 9th is the one I use the most, second place goes to Lyman 49th. There is a newer 10th edition Hornady but the 9th should be fine. There is enough introductory material to get you started and the load data is new enough for you to make a decision on powders however a few IMR powders have been discontinued and a few new ones (plus several Hodgdon and Alliant powders) have been introduced. My advice is try to find a used copy on Amazon or ebay of the 9th edition but look around. I actually purchased my 9th Hornady and my Nosler Manual at .......WalMart in Lehighton!

As long as your primary interest is in bottleneck rifle then either the RCBS Rockchucker or Hornady single stage press is good. If you have the money then give a look at the Forester Co-Ax or the Redding T-7. As far as scales go many like digital but personally I like beam, both RCBS and Hornady market good beam scales. Put money into a good scale it will last and read true. You will want a powder trickler and a case trimmer. It will cost around $100.00 for a good case trimmer, a trickler is inexpensive. I personally don't like hand primer tools and really like my RCBS bench mounted auto-prime. You will want a bullet puller about $20.00 and calipers for measuring. Frankford Arsonal makes a decient case tumbler for less than $60.00. About a year ago I got a great buy on an RCBS Charge Master powder dispenser/scale combo from Cabelas in Hamburg. These are pricy though and not necessary for the beginner.

I make the offer again, I'm near Beltzville Lake in Franklin Twp. not far from exit 74 turnpike extension. Maybe about 6 miles from downtown Jim Thorpe. You are more than welcome to stop over and try my stuff out, just say the word. email: [email protected]

Try the local library for manuals, yard sales sometimes have some and goodwill in the book section is hit or miss. eBay works on occasion if you shop around too.
