Either I'm an idiot, or they are (sorry, not a poll)

Just received a new Vortex today (yay!), and here's what they say about ranging:
booklet.jpg
Am I completely out to sea, or doesn't the image show a target subtending about 2 MOA, not 8?

i,m a idiot, i use a lica range finder and use the click system on my remington 700P in 300win mag with a leupold 4.5x14 SF 30mm tube and CDS turret. 1/4" clicks at a 100 yards = 1/2" at 200 yards, 3/4" at 300 yards, 1" at 400 yards, 1-1/4" at 500 yards, you can run it out to 1000 yards where a 1/4" click would= 2-1/2" movement. a simple system for a simple man, ME. eastbank.

I'm with @MCMXI, I'm betting the image originated as a milling demo, then they came out with this "MOA'ing" reticle and forgot to scale the target size in the reticle when they updated the manual materials.

Besides, the manual isn't teaching you how to read target size, it's providing you with the appropriate formula. Cut the picture out altogether and there's nothing wrong at all with the math they proposed.

If you don't quit making so much sense I'm going to have to quit reading your posts.

I was going to ask what the click system was till i looked again your fractions and thought them as decimals and realized you were just talking about how you like using MOA as your preference of angular measurement for drop/turrest/etc.

Yeah, it actually shows a target centered at 8 MOA, not "sized" at 8 MOA.

If you want a corrected version, here is an image from a different scope manual...

OK, thanks to all. It didn't occur to me that the illustration probably is a hold-over from a mil-dot manual. My argumentative if feeble mind is, at last, at rest.
