Clint Smith on the Mossberg Shockwave

Saw quite a few Shockwaves at a gun show last week. Prices seemed to be in the low to mid $400 range. Made the rounds a couple of times but didn't see anybody checking them out.

AS 'useless' as many think this is.

I now count about 10 friends that bought them with the adapter to fire the Aguila short shells.

So,like um or not.

They are a tool that a few will be using and training with.

Well I'm very happy with my Shockwave, and really like theAguila short shells., the gun is fast to get into action as well as pointing where I want it, it just took a little getting use to but I'm ok with it now, just like any other type of gun, there is a learning curve...and the birds head grip is much easier than a pistol grip, and my hand appreciates that, fun gun to shoot to say the least, and has a place in my defenseive line up..

I have the Remington TAC14. First thing I did was fabricate a strap for the forend, using the M-Lok slots.
Brought it to the range and shot:
3" 00 Magnum
2 3/4" 00
2 3/4" Reduced Recoil 00
1 oz Slugs
Target loads #8 shot.

I was shocked! Those 3" magnums were left over from when I got my Mossberg Defense shotgun. I swore I'd never shoot them because they hurt me so bad in the stocked shotgun.
In the TAC14 they were manageable. Quite the opposite of what I was expecting.
The slugs were a breeze after the 3" magnums. Hitting the target wasn't a problem, but hitting the center of the target took some practice.
The 00 2 3/4" went easy enough.
The reduced recoil 00 is what I'll use in this thing. Really speeds up follow up shots.
The target loads were just for more practice. I was having so much fun I shot a whole box.

Overall, easier to manage the recoil than in my Mossberg with a stock, but harder to score accurate hits.

I was really glad I added the strap, and would not try one without that modification.

Would it be sufficient just to stick a birds head grip on a normal mossberg 500 and just be done ? I know its a bit longer than these little things but a grip is under 30usd. I have a PG with it (shotgun came with 2 barrels and 2 stocks) but pretty much swore to never put it back on after shooting with it.

BUT for reasons only a politician could explain [ but will not ] that would make me an outlaw and a criminal.

As it stands,I will state that I [ yes me and only me ] really like the handling and abilitys of this tool,ESPECIALLY with the shorty shells [ a HOOT to shoot ].

Let's face it, with all the damn laws on the books any and all of us are criminals and outlaws. It's just that most of us haven't gotten the direct attention of the powers that be who could pick and choose...
