Starline 223

Thank you.

I buy and use Starline brass for some calibers; particularly 30 Carbine that I will form into 5.7mm Johnson, and 38 Special. Ever since I discovered Starline, it is the only new brass that I will buy if they are making a case I use.

But when it comes to 223, I just can't bring myself to buy new when I can get military once-fired (and I know it is once-fired because it is still crimped) brass for 3 to 4 cents per round.

Yep, hard to justify the cost of new for anything but serious target games.

Yeah I have a hard time seeing a lot of people buying new 223 brass.
I when i had a .223 i bought new cases for all of my hunting ammo, never mind that i have 40lbs of 556 brass on hand.....still do infact....

Granted all i shot with my mini was medium game so 100 rnds of "serious" ammo usually lasted me a year. I shot a ton of crap ammo thru too, but that was with my range pickups...got a couple hundred more today.

I received this email as well. I have to say I am a little more than happy. Now all my brass can be American made.

I hope that it measures as well as the Lapua brass and can give them and Nosler a good competitor.

Yes, they have had them a while now, and several other rifle calibers. 6.5 CM, .308, 300 BO, and others....not as cheap as LC once fired (.223/5.56), but Im going to try them.

Their pistol brass is top quality, I suppose the rifle is as well. How it compares with Lapua for instance, I do not know, but intend to find out.

Well, I have always thought so, but I have a feeling Lapua will be superior, BUT at a premium. I am going to find out. It will take a while, as to find out will require numerous reloads. While expensive the Lapua is supposed to hold up to increased reloads due to the extreme high quality of the brass used.

I use Starline for some of my revolvers. Starline has made a name for themselves among the relic and cowboy shooters. Some of that brass is hard to find any place else.

One of the reasons I shoot .223 is that range brass is in abundance where I shoot and free for the effort to pick it up. I buy new brass when I have to but 223 and 308 is pretty common in our brass bucket. I don't shoot in any competition so new brass isn't that important. If I did I would try Starline.

I can see it now, buy some high end brass and watch your AR throw it where it can't be found. I love Starline brass, but I use mil surplus once fired like most people for the AR.

I do use Starline brass for pistols, especially revolvers. It is good stuff. I like Lapua for bolt action rifles, but it's not cheap.

Folks can use it in their bolt action rifles.

Heck people put more money into modifying their ARs than some do on Ruger 10/22.. then why not feed it expensive brass.

I need some Titanium pins for mine:scrutiny:

Brass catcher maybe?

Oh yeah, definitely got that. I went with the picatinny rail mounted ones. They work great for ARs if they'll fit without hitting a scope. I also have one of the Caldwell ones you mount on a tripod. I haven't tried that one out yet.

I just obtained them this year.

Same here. I also got one of the Caldwell rail mount ones. I just plain got tired of chasing after all my 5.56 cases.

I use a quality brass catcher that affixes to the rail. Not one of the slip lover bag types. It fits with scopes, red dots and iron sights. No lost brass.

I use the 3 Buc. Expensive! and extra rail mounts are also pricey (available from the company) Heavy duty!!

Also bought a Caldwell which is kind of a copy, it works very well and less money

This Caldwell not the Velcro crappy one.

I haven't had a chance to try that Caldwell catcher yet. I've read where the hot cases hitting the same spot will start to melt the netting. If it does start to show signs of this happening, I don't think it will be too difficult to add (sow) a piece of leather to the problem spot.

That 3 Bucc catcher is nice. Looks more durable than the Caldwell.

Have not melted mine, but if it did, Caldwell has great service and would replace it I bet.

The 3 Buc is a canvas type material, only issue other than price is it doesn't vent the "smoke, heat" so you can get a face full of it if you rapid fire, It is really heavy duty though. As mentioned if you have more than one rifle the extra rail mount is a overpriced!. Over $20 plus shipping when I bought one.

I use the Caldwell rail mount on all my AR's. I have found that Varget seams to run a little hotter/slower and some times stick to the netting. Have not noticed it with an other powders though. I normally catch them on sale for around $24 at midway. I looked at just getting the extra base but it's over 1/2 the price of a new unit.

Additional rail mounts can be had for 12.95, but at the sale price, I get a catcher for each AR.
