It just hit me... August will be here in a few days and that means September 29th Ohio bow season opener will be 2 months away and I don't have didley squat done. I have several farms I hunt regularly and no cameras, salt licks, etc out. I have to get with it!

anyone else behind like me?

Varies by zones here and we have special seasons for everything. But the seasons for my zone are:

Archery 9/23-2/28
Private land antlerless 10/14-10/18
ML 10/21-10/29 and 12/9-12/11
Modern gun 11/11-12/3 and 12/26-12/28

Then there are a couple of youth hunts for kids under 16 too. You need to be a Philadelphia Lawyer to keep up with Arkansas.

I haven't looked at this years regs yet, but traditionally archery starts in mid September for 4 weeks. One week of primitive weapons, Archery is legal then too. Rifle season is about the 3rd weekend of October until early January in the northern 1/2 of the state. Mid January in the south.

The only opening that concerns me is gun season, archery is when the mood hits me and that's usually mid October.
I agree with you on that. I just started bow hunting a lot the last few years and that's only because i got private land close to home and didn't have to drive an hour to hunt. i hate early season but my buddy drags me out so i go. i like to start bow hunting as soon as the leaves change colors cause i can see them better and also not so hot.

Lot of guys around here like to wait till after a couple frosts. Kills the ticks on the deer.
im a fellow NE Ohioan also and i agree with you. too many ticks, mosquitos, etc. i usually get out first week or 2 of October just for the heck of it and let quite a few walk the last few years cause its too hot. ive seen a doe 2yrs ago shot first week of October that had several huge ticks on her.

OK bow season opens on 1 October. Ft. Sill muzzleloader season opens on 15 October and lasts two weeks. OK muzzleloader season opens on 28 October. OK deer gun season opens on 18 November.

i kind of envy you guys with several week long gun seasons. we get 7 days. Ohio's herb has taken a huge hit from high bag limits and out influx of out of state hunters so im happy with 7 days.

Deer season a plane ride away for me, no deer on the island i live on. Just got home from Molokai, so thats probably the END of my deer season lol.

Me and a buddy went out for that early antlerless muzzleloader season we had a few years back. Got a doe apiece in the morning and on the ride home he pulled probably a dozen ticks off himself. I didn't have one. Figured I must just taste bad till I remembered I was wearing a pair of the army surplus multicam pants. They're treated with Permethrin. Stuff works great.

For Minnesota:
Archery = 9/16 until 12/31
General Firearms = 11/4 until 11/19
Muzzle Loader = 11/25 until12/10
Special Youth Hunt (To get kids interested and in the field) = 10/19 thru 22 (All dates inclusive)
There are other hunts, like in Camp Ripley and one needs to check the rules and regs. for their zone. Some areas of MN have shorter seasons, and may be limited to their use of firearms i.e. shotgun slug use only. Zones and areas have different laws(Buck only, lottery antlerless permits etc. so you better know where you are on the map!) I am fortunate to live in N. MN where our seasons are the longest!

Mine is the third week of October since I can't do "stick-n-string" with a bad shoulder and bad bicep. This weekend will be for checking my natural deer blinds, and see how much the local poacher has been creeping around my place. :scrutiny:

Why don't you use a crossbow?

as of today we hit 60 days until bow season. Im so screwed right now. im starting to get sick where i feel the need to go to the hot, bug ridden woods and put up cameras, rush home from work to shoot my bows, pick apples.

man oh man i think i got deeritis.

Kansas is always the same now that we've standardized our archery season:

1st wknd of Sept through 2nd wknd: Youth & Disability
Monday after through Dec 31: Archery
Wednesday after Thanksgiving through 2 sundays: Firearms
