I bought a Tikka T3 in 8mm Mauser 6 months ago. I didn't really know what to expect as it was my first Tikka. I bought it because is was relatively cheap and in 8mm because its my caliber. A few trips to the range and I was shocked to find out it is the most accurate rifle I own. Basically 1/2" 3/4" groups with almost any combination. How is it that Tikka's out perform everything out there ? What's the catch ? Accurate, light and affordable I am impressed and little confused as to why they are so good compared to everyone else .

I don't know how they do it but I sure love mine. I would say is a combination of very good barrels, a very stiff receiver, a very good trigger, and probably the best bedding system of any factory rifle.

Do people have problems with their extractors? like Remington 700s?

I would say alot of it has to do with just how much more accurate new rifles are today compared to 20 years ago. Many people are singing the same praises of the Ruger American rifle right now too. Mine are the most accurate rifles I own.

Is Tikka chambering new rifles in 8MM Mauser? If so that's cool. IME Vanguard S2's are as accurate though heavier. I don't believe they are better than Tikka but they come standard with 24" barrels and have hinged floor plates which I prefer.

No the tikko uses an extractor similar to an AR15. This is commonly called a sako style extractor. (Tikka is made by Sako) In fact a common modification for a remington 700 is to add a sako style extractor.

Also an excellent gun.

Yea, i believe it has alot to do with current firearm technology being what it is that several new rifles tend to be awesome shooters and affordable too. For instance, Tikka, CZ, Howa/Wby Vanguard S2, Savage 10/110. IMHO id take any of these NIB and be confident with a good scope/rings that itll be impressive on paper.

What Anchutz and the like used to do but took serious coin to get, heck Ruger American will come close in the accuracy dept now days for under $400!

Tikka has made quite the name for themselves, and deservedly so. All of them have been shooters that ive played around with. No need to buy the Sako no more just for tight groups.

Tikka's are neat, I want one, but I never thought they were "affordable" at least in a nice stock with irons and all, but the 8mm is a great round, and undervalued in the US.

I really like Tikka's, I have a L/H T3 in .270 Win. A great shooter. It's great to hear Tikka (Beretta) imported some in 7.92X57 JS. I'm a fan since I reloaded for 8MM Mauser in the early 1970's. If they had a L/H, I might buy one.

I have a Tikka in 7mm Rem Mag. The same story, it's a beauty (wood stock) and it shoots tight groups.

I own a new tikka and sako and they are a lot alike The sako has a few more bells and whistles but at the end of the day the tikka will do the same thing for a third the price

The Tikka will be as accurate, but the Sako is a much better rifle. Depends on our budget.

I agree that Sako is a much nicer rifle by a mile and given a choice, of course id rather have the Sako. The Tikka is an affordable shooter while the Sako is a top shelf heirloom quality shooter. Owning one does depend on your "toy" budget, for sure.

What i said though, has nothing to do with how nice they are or being able to afford one. All i meant was no need to buy the Sako just for a tight shooter. Dont have to pay the premium just to get that level of accuracy. The Tikka at 1/3 the $ shoots like a house afire outa the box, just like the others brands i mentioned. Its just not as nice and purty as the Sako. If you want to buy a work of art that prints little cloverleaves and will for years to come and also hold great value, Sako would fit the bill. For a tight shooter only, no need imho. Lots of bargain shooters nowdays.

I remember a man needing to buy high end or a custom rifle and also HAVE to reload to get the kind of accuracy these price point rifles usually get with the factory ammo of its choice.
