In the Question and answer section on Cabelas website somebody asked where in fit compared to a vx-1. The cabelas response was that it was part of the vx-1 line but is a Cabelas exclusive. Looking at the specs it appears like it is basically a vx-1 with a LR windplex reticle so it should be good. Here's the exact quoted response, "The Leupold® American Marksman 3-9x40 fits in the VX-1 line of scopes. This is a Cabela's exclusive rifle scope and it was introduced the last week of July 2017."

That's great. I figured it was a no brainer at $149 and it's ordered.

I also ordered Cabela's Alpha Series 3-12x40 for my 10/22 TD to compare with Bushnell 3-9x40 that's on it now. Whichever works out better will be kept and I will gift the other scope to a co-worker in need of a scope.

Leupold will be used as reference scope to do various 9mm carbine 25/50/100 yard load testing and use my current Bushnell Banner Dusk & Dawn 6-18x50 for .223/.300 BLK/.308 testing to 300 yard limit of my shooting area.

Not even listed on Leupolds website. I'd think it is most likely a version of the Rifleman rather than the VX-1. It should be worth $150.

It seems a brand new model just for Cabela's.
Cabelas website (Q&A) ... "The Leupold® American Marksman 3-9x40 fits in the VX-1 line of scopes. This is a Cabela's exclusive rifle scope and it was introduced the last week of July 2017."
I have several scopes that have worked well for 25/50/100 yard 9mm carbine testing so I figured $149 Leupold on level of VX-1 should serve well for close range testing purposes.

At least, I will be able to provide some feedback for those interested in this new Leupold model.

I spoke to Leupold about the American Marksman, and was told it is a Cabela's exclusive scope, assembled here in the USA, and fully backed by Leupold's lifetime warranty. I asked if it was similar to the Rifleman, and the response was it was more of the VX-1. For $149.99, I don't see how you could beat it. A friend ordered one, and I told him, if he didn't like it, I would take it off his hands. (Don't really need a scope right now, but you never know).
