Hey everyone,
I'm planning a trip in the near future and will pass a couple of gander mtn's on the way. There are none within an hour of me so I haven't experienced their liquidation process. I'm just wondering if the shelves are empty? If not, is the stuff remaining worth a look for a entry level guy? I keep getting ads with ridiculous markdowns (no specifics on items), and I'm trying to decide whether to make a detour to stop in. The fact that I'd have my wife and my two kids (under 8 yrs old) in tow (while on a road trip) gives me pause. What do you guys think.

There's some good deals in Pensacola- like Ruger Americans under $300. But in general the store looks like a carcass thats been getting picked at by hyenas.

My nearest store in southern Georgia is practically stripped. They have rearranged customer access to about 1500 sf with shelving at the edge & a couple of apparel racks in the center. Other stores may be different.

It wouldn't be worth a special trip. I got a single gun sock for a quarter, though.

I passed one a couple of weeks ago that had a banner advertising their shelving for sale, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume they've sold pretty much everything.

The last time I was at one, about three weeks ago, the merchandise was marked up so far that even at 40% off it was not a good buy so they still had a lot of clothing. The store may have been one the new owners are going to keep open because new merchandise with a Campers World logo (or something like that) was starting to fill the empty spaces on the shelves.

My Gander store was selling all of fixtures and was almost empty last time I went in.(last weekend) I believe they are closing my store this weekend. Last weekend was the last days to buy firearms. Don't know if that's nationwide but, I believe most of the stores have been picked through.

sounds like mine

The store in Eau Claire, Wisconsin has been closed for at least a couple weeks.

Last time I was in, about a week before they closed, they had some used guns left at 40% off. I thought about one and finally tracked an employee down to see it. Even at 40% off it was still overpriced...

My local one is closed.
I had been hearing how it had been open and full of stuff for some time.
Finally had cause to stop in today.
There was a broken 18wheeler in the parking lot and some wreckers hanging out behind the store.
It was closed up with a minor amount of trash around it.
290 location in Houston.

I suspect the other 2 Houston locations met the same fate.

Decimated. Apparently last weekend the one near me went to 50% off. Pistol cases empty, all bolt action rifles gone. All that was left were a few of those single shot break action rifles, 7mm-08, 270, 243 all under 200usd. I think a couple of slug rifles and i think 2 remington 750s (semiauto ,30-06). Some guy was considering buying the single shotters for use at a kid's shooting camp. The clothing section was pretty much fully stocked. I bought some long sleeve shirts for outdoor summer use, just okay prices.

In the last 55 years I have not seen 1 liquidation or going out of business sale that was worth buying anything at. All smoke and mirrors. Got better buys at seasonal sales.

They closed and are now history like the two before them in the same location.

Your on the back end of Ganders demise . If you want to feel what it`s like to wander around a large ,empty store, take the wife and kids and enjoy.

I went to the store in Johnson City, NY. I bought a small base 223 sizing die for $16 that was supposedly 60% off. No surprise to me that they are going out of business. Prices are stupid high. The Johnson City store was even selling display cabinets and the raised letter gun signs that went above the gun racks.

I was in the one in Charlottesville, VA today (as well as last week). They put the firearms on 50% off last week which pretty much cleared out all but about 10. Today they dropped them to 60% off for new and 70% off of used, which has them down to just a handful of shotguns and some $2,500 rifles. I think tomorrow is actually the last day you can buy a gun at this location. The optics are almost all gone, the scope bases and accessories are also almost gone. There just really isn't much left. The ammo is 50% off and still not really very good prices, but most of it other than WSM and Magnum ammo left. They do have black powder stuff at 50% off and a lot left as well as tons of clothing (most of it with the Gander logo). The first 2 months of this liquidation sale were pretty lousy, but there have been some great deals there over the past two weeks, but almost all of it is gone. They did still have some "Top Brass" branded brass, but even at 60% off the prices on it are still insane. It's not worth the trip imo, but if you're going by it wouldn't hurt to stop in and take a look around.

Wichita KS store nearly empty, supposed to close soon. Mostly clothes and fishing stuff. Rumors that a new camping store will occupy the building but who knows.
