I was in Ripley WV over the weekend and always head to the sporting goods counter and i looked over and seen reloading bullets, rcbs dies, shell holders, etc. I was in awe cause i figured walmart would have a good deal and yes they did! $24-100 44cal XTP bullets. Everything else was either HP 9mm/38 or large bore rifle ammo. I played with the idea of grabbing a box or two but ive got 100 xtp at home and i only hunt with that ammo so they will last me awhile.

Dies seemed to be a little cheaper also then i remember paying for mine. I want to say they even had primers cause i seen large cci boxes in the glass cabinets. I really wish my walmart started doing that! :(

Neato!

I've kindof stopped even perusing the stuff in the sporting section of Walmart, because I either have it already, or its just junk...sometimes both. And I haven't bought factory ammo in a loooong time.
I may have to start wandering through there again.

This Wal-Mart had a 5 tier shelf about 6ft wide with bullets, shell holders and such on pegs and about 20 sets of dies. I too usually stay away from there cause its junk but the WV usually has some high quality stuff.

In SW Va some of the stores have reloading supplies and some don't. Also the items carried varies.
The one closest to us had a decent supply similar to what OP described.

Primers are a bit more expensive than many LGS and Sportsmans Warehouse but they typically have them in stock. Bullets seem to be about the same as Sportsman or maybe a tiny bit less. Since I order bullets online in bulk it's a non issue. Power is limited to a few Reloader flavors and prices seem ok. RL-15 keeps tempting me overtime I go by so who knows maybe I'll try some.

Overall, I would say that the selection isn't great nor terrible. I guess it's nice knowing that we have a place that has some stuff that is open 24 hours. But again, I'm not sure how useful it is as those of us who have their gear and supplies probably don't need much of what they have.

Should put downward price pressure on BassPro, etc. Good 'ole American competition. (But, on the other hand, China DID invent gun powder. May start seeing "Made in China" on their powder. Yikes!)

Oh come on now

We all know that the "Experience" at Bass Pro is worth the extra cost.

Oh wait, I've never understood it. I guess if you get enough people through the door you can get them with higher priced impulse purchase prices. But then again, isn't higher volume suppose to mean cheaper prices and bigger discounts?

I will say the one thing I learned in economics was that economics is a bunch of BS. Lots of great theories but nothing that works as expected in the real world. Now don't get me wrong, I'm mostly a good capitalist, but I also see some benefits of socialism (roads, fire and rescue, libraries). So the real issue is how to get our HYBRID system to work well.

IMHO Walmart does a good job of driving down prices. But they also do a good job of driving down wages, lower quality and hurting competition. So we don't know their long term impact yet. In fact, I'd say we're only beginning to see the impact of the next stage of their growth and adjustment as they attempt to compete with Amazon and eBay.

While I haven't purchased anything from their online site yet, they do seem competitive. Some shopping at sites like Joe Bobs, Cheaper Than Dirt, etc has resulted in cheaper prices but not by much. So we'll see if Walmart can compete in that space as they have a much wider variety of shooting and reloading supplies online.

SOME Walmarts sell reloading supplies. The only one I've ever seen reloading supplies in is 125 miles from me. Not an economical solution for my reloading needs. Sources closer to home aren't exactly bargain priced but better than driving that distance.

Some Walmart stores sell loading supplies, but IME, most don't. Those that do, don't have enough of a selection to bother with and their prices are no better than my local Sportsmans Warehouse.
One exception though, was 3 years ago at a WM 35 miles from me that happened to have a pound of powder that I needed on the shelf when no one else did. Mu lucky day.

I've never seen one selling reloading stuff. They stopped selling handguns a few years ago. Pretty soon, I imagine the only "gun" stuff they'll sell will be airguns.

I do practice but its only when i go to the range and shoot other stuff. i shoot 223rem, 22lr and 9mm more and take the deer guns and pop off 5-10rds just to stay fresh. About a month before season (December) i will run about 30rds through them. I could use the $50 i was going to spend on bullets to sit around for months on groceries or something else like the horn on my truck that just went out. :)

It appears reloading supplies are not available through walmart.com...

If by supplies you mean components such as bullets, primers and powder then yes. Otherwise look again but don't limit to your local stores. They have partnerships with a bunch of companies and many offer free ship to store or free shipping.

As I posted earlier I've yet to see anything on their site I couldn't get cheaper from JobBobs, AIM, CTD, etcif I spent a little time looking for the best deal. That said, the prices I've found weren't so much better that if I didn't have time to search, I'd check Walmart.com first.

Actually I do that anyway. I usually find that their best price partner is the one that I use as the highest price I'll consider. From there I then look for better prices.

I have bought a good bit reloading suplies at the Ripley Walmart..They stock up good on a pretty good variety of powder, but they are bad to get down to just a few jugs before they restock..The next time you are in Jackson Co. stop by Bridgeport Equipment (formerly the Great Outdoors). It's more in Fairplain than Ripley, but it's a pretty good store..They have a much bigger variety of powder, and bullets, and the prices won't bad..I never cared for the place when it was The Great Outdoors, but now I really like it.

yep on old 21 going toward Ripley? I haven't been there for maybe 15yrs and decided on the way home from kenna/kentuck to get off a fairplain and take it into Ripley and see the old neighborhood and said i was stopping at great outdoors but it appeared closed and the sign was different so i just kept going. I went down for a family reunion in kentuck just shy of woodrum lake. Hit the old lake for some fishing but it was too mucked over. This will probably be the last time i ever go down there :(. so much has changed down there. what used to be WMA is now houses or purchased land and fenced and gated, the lake looks pretty bad also.

SOME Walmarts sell reloading supplies.

I was going to say the same thing. Walmart is very inconsistent in what they have or don't have from store to store or even day to day. So you start shopping at walmart because you got a cheaper price on one item and then they don't have it the next week so you have to find it elsewhere. Or you manage to find a walmart that has what you need and find all the registers are closed so you ask if they are going to open one and get told "ain't my job" so you leave empty handed anyway. Its not worth the trip.

What the Walmart stores carry depends on location relative to other sporting goods outlets ( BP, Academy, Cabelas, etc ) , the whim of the store manager, and the knowledge (or lack thereof) of the sporting goods department manager. Local management has SOME say in the products carried.

None of the WM. Stores in the area north of the DFW metroplex even carry guns any more, much less reloading supplies. What I have been told by store managers and department managers is that they don't have enough space to carry a big enough product selection. Which is BS. They don't have the employees with sufficient knowledge to manage the inventory and answer product questions, so they have opted out.

......Yea the old Great Outdoors sign is gone . Bridgeport equipment is part John Deere dealership, and part sporting goods store..It is a lot better on price, and selection than it was when it was Great Outdoors..I don't care much for fishing anymore, but my farm is not far from Elk Fork lake which is pretty good bass fishing for these parts, and our new place is just up the road a piece from Rollins lake, which they keep stocked with trout...

The "experience" at the Bass Pro "mothership" in Springfield, Missouri, is indeed worth the trip and the extra cost.

The rest of the Bass Pro stores mimic the decor of the Springfield store but utterly lack the original's "ethos" and are in my opinion no more alluring nor welcoming than Cabellas, Academy, Dick's or Gander Mountain (before their bankruptcy).

Walmart has historically carried reloading supplies. I bought my first pound of powder at a Wal-Mart.

But, whether a particular Wal-Mart carries reloading supplies depends on the state and the "category" of store that it is. None of the Wal-Marts around me carry any reloading supplies; they barely carry ammunition.

Correct.

Part of this is because Wal-Mart was very timid about getting into e-commerce and initially entered that market through a contractor. They subsequently acquired the contractor, but there are sill some legacy issues that remain; particularly with regard to items that are restricted in some jurisdictions, but not in others.
