Rented a PERFORMANCE CENTER Model SW1911 at the range today - what a joy to shoot. Only the second time I've used a 1911, and the last time was in the 90s with a beat up range rental which was literally my first pistol experience. Ready to throw my Ruger P95 in the trash - my groups at the same distance closed up from 8" to less than 3" going from my 9mm to the rental 45. Apart from that rental experience in the 90s, I've only been a pistol shooter for 3 years, so it was incredibly reassuring to see I was capable of actually shooting tight groups with a semi auto, and kinda makes me sick to think about how much 9mm I've put downrange yet had resigned to labeling myself as forever mediocre with pistol. I guess working on my technique forever trying to close up those saucer sized groups paid off once I had the right gun in my hand!

Anyway, the SW1911 is out of my price range at a quoted price of $1399 plus tax - but the E Series seems to be available sub $800 which is doable. What are the differences between these pistols? All I've noted is the Performance version has target sights, slide porting for weight reduction, a magwell and different grips. Any other fundamental differences other than those?

The trigger in the PC gun should be a bit crisper than on the E Series and probably a bit liter. fit and finish may be a little nicer too. The slide cuts aren't really that beneficial I don't think, unless you really care about weight reduction.

That being said, I've found my full size E Series to be very accurate and a pleasant shooter.

There's certainly nicer 1911s out there to pick from, but the E Series is very decent for it's price range IMO.

Aren't the S&W PC 1911s still using the spherical barrel bushing and target crowning?
Apparently so. From the website.

"Features
• Performance Center action job
• Throated barrel
• Precision crowned muzzle
• Polished feed ramp
• Spherical barrel bushing
• 30-Lines per inch checkering
• Ambidextrous frame safety
• Slide ported lighting cuts

ALL BACKED BY OUR SMITH & WESSON LIFETIME SERVICE POLICY.
Availability subject to applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations, and ordinances."

Honestly, for the price, if it were me, I'd sooner go after a Dan Wesson before the PC gun. But that's just an opinion.

I like my E Series, and don't have a strong desire to upgrade or buy another 1911. that gun shoots just fine, so I'm content.

...is this good or bad? Or do you mean it's another difference between them and the E Series?
It is another difference... a major difference since you can't get them on any other production 1911 that I'm aware of.

You usually only see the Briley Barrel Bushing as an aftermarket custom addition

I have a S&W 1911 E Series .45 Auto,it's one of my seven 1911's pistols.Mine has the Crimson Trace Laser.

What are your thoughts on it? I can't find one anywhere locally to rent, so if I do get one it will be without trying it first,, except for my impressions from shooting the Performance Center version which is starting to sound like it is built to more exacting standards and with some upgraded components.

I want lie to you,so far this one has been a safe queen.I have shot one before, my friend let me shoot his S&W E series I liked it and bought me one.Sorry!!!!

That's a great price! But still at the moment not an option. A little bit of hurricane damage here in FL to sort out first.
