The British Isles and Australia underwent a de-testiculation program right at the end of WWII.

The berries have not grown back yet...

And probably never will. They have lived without gun rights and/or gun ownership for too long. It is now thought of as normal. There has been no backlash against confiscation up to the present and the people are content and complacent. Not likely to get those rights back.

I met some folks from Australia during a recent bus tour. Several of them. I tried to have a conversation about guns when it seemed appropriate. Sadly, most of them had no interest in guns and basically agreed with the government. The one guy who lived in a rural area said the application process was lengthy, but in his view "necessary". Based on my very small sample, it sounds like the government has done a good job of convincing the Aussies that they are better off without access to guns.

Australia has 22,000,000 people living in the same size country (almost) as the US minus Alaska. Plenty of room for hiding unmentionables. I don't believe for a minute the real Aussies turned in everything they had. I doubt we will either if it came to that. Just my $0.02

If you want a Daisy BB gun - you need this license.

That's about the way it is in N.J. too. You have to get a state issued firearms permit to purchase and if you want an air gun pistol, you need a permit signed by the chief of police in your town.

Sickening.

I have had an experience similar to that of Sniper66. Good friend , Australian transplant , rough and tumble type of a guy. Guns? "Something HAD to be done. Better off this way."

Remember - they have ALWAYS been subjects of their government. We fought a War of Independence.

And now , the "slippery slope" is under our feet...

Let's not forget this is a site for gun enthusiasts, ask many people in this country and you know you'd get the same answer as those Aussies you talked to.

Those aren't shotguns.
Duh. The linked article was an example. The recent lever action shotgun that cause controversy was the Adler A110 - they were looking at reclassifying *all* lever actions, not just shotguns.

We need to think about these things before they happen in the US. I fear and believe that once the people who want to strip us of our guns accomplish their goal, in these times of technology NO amount of coming to our senses will be able to get Democracy back. Once the population is subjugated it will be permanent. Very sad for humankind if we let it happen.

Australia thought THIS gun turn in program would be different from all the U.S. amnesty's and "buy back" madness over the years. Criminals need to dispose of their junk too.
