I prefer revolvers for carry. Safe, simple and accurate I suppose.

I recently picked up a Bauer Brothers made in STL IWB K Frame holster that is older than me and works well with my m66 and m10 pencil barrel. What is your preference for full size revolver carry?

OWB is nice but rather lumpy for how I dress. I was not alive for your average 1960s beat or undercover cover cop to see how it was done... So how do you conceal a 158gr SWC iron? Is it worth it vs a plastic semi that weighs the same vs 3x the bullets?

^ or, is a 5 shot snub (EDC) just as good as a full size gun

Frankly I've been carrying OWB cross draw for decades. But from time to time I need to carry IWB cross or strong side. Simply Rugged makes holsters that can be easily changed from cross to strong side and with the addition of add on straps used and IWB cross or strong side.

A Milt Sparks Versa Max 2 lets me carry a 629 with 4” barrel. I use a steel reinforced belt from Bigfoot Gun Belts.

Another vote for Simply Rugged Sourdough pancake.
I've got one for a 3" 65-5, and another for a 640-1. Very comfortable, reasonable price, well made.

I'm thinking of another, I seem to have acquired Ruger 4-5/8" 44 Spl Bisley Blackhawk....

I like the Milt Sparks 200AW and PMK, and Kramer Vertical Scabbard, for carrying Big Iron.

"...conceal a 158gr SWC iron..." That'd be both of your revolvers. Both are just 'K' frames. No big deal to conceal, depending on the barrel length, but what you are wearing matters. Plus a certain amount of how 'lumpy' you are.
That Simply Rugged pancake holster offers a lot of protection for the revolver. That'd be a good thing. I do notice it's a 'J' frame holster though.
"...your average 1960s beat or undercover cover cop..." Used what they were issued. Cops still do.

Custom pancake (owb) made locally. Made to ride lower than most pancakes I have seen so that my S&W Mdl 69 2.75" or my 686. 4" will not be so top heavy.

A long T-shirt or light jacket covers completely. I normally carry.44 specials in the 69 and moderate.357 loads in the 686.

I have a couple of IWB holsters, but using them requires a larger pants size, so I don't carry them. As for the plastic semis.......I have never found one that is pocket size and reliable enough for EDC so I ruled them out.

As a late 60's beat cop I carried a S&W mdl 19. 4" nickel. Later as plainclothes I carried a mdl 19 2.5" in a shoulder holster. Off-duty was a Smith mdl 36 in my pocket. Back then, unless you were part of a large dept., in my area you furnished your own duty and off-duty sidearm to meet department guidelines.

Bob, those Threepersons rigs are very nice. I especially like the one with the border stamping.

Who made those ? they look like El Paso Saddlery, but I'm no expert.
I may have to get one for the new (to me) Bisley Blackhawk.

Sorry I couldn't get this to work this morning, here maybe a little better:

This holster is from Graveyard Jack Gunleather.

Bob, every time you show that holster I drool. I'm not a big Threepersons fan as most don't have a retaining strap. But, that is one beautiful piece of leather. I'd use that for a BBQ rig any day of the week.

Craig incorporates a retention strap, either hammer thong or snap strap on his Tom Threepersons models, but I specified no retention straps on my holsters for social carry. His holsters have enough security that straps aren't required, and as I don't frolic around so much any more, don't want them on my holsters.

Now if I were to be out in the roughs, I'd be O.K. with a strap,as on this holster:

This holster, by the way, is one I made many, many, many years ago.

It became difficult for me to carry my handguns on my hip in hip holsters. At a gun show I found a outfit called Pistol Packaging, that made a over the shoulder rig that allowed you to attach your hip holsters. Bought one for I think around 60.00 bucks with one extension ( I'm tall ) and a 10 round cartridge strip.I simply love it, I can carry all my hip holsters under my arm and just lift it over my head to take it off.

As to safety strap or hammer thongs on holsters, especially with a Single Action revolver consider this: When you grasp the butt of your gun in a threatened situation, you hand finds the butt of your gun while your thumb finds the hammer spur. Your thumb needs to have NO OTHER FUNCTION THAN TO COCK THAT HAMMER as you make your draw. Releasing a thong or snap strap eats up too much valuable time!
