2017 hunting picture thread

Ohio's started Saturday but haven't been out yet cause its in the mid-high 70's and low 80's which is not normal for this time of year. I might go out tonight just for the heck of it but unless its a wall hanger i probably wont shoot.
 
Our bow season here runs from mid September till January. There was a muzzleloader season for a couple weeks in Sept. but too hot and buggy for me. There will be a 3 day "pre rut" antlerless season this weekend just to add to the confusion... might get out for that but it's supposed to rain. :(
Rifle season starts end of Nov. into early Dec..
Kansas also has some late antlerless seasons after the first of the year but that varies by zone.
Did I mention that it's confusing...? o_O

Confusing here too. The state is broken down to zones with varying seasons, but for most of the state it is as follows:

Bow:9/23/17-2/28/18
Black Powder: 10/21-29 and 12/9-11
Private land doe season:10/14-18
Youth season: 11/4-5 and 1/6-7/ 2018
Modern gun: 11/11-12/3 and 12/26-28

Bag limits vary from zone to zone. Statewide limit 6 with only 2 bucks. Then there are special regs for WMA's and the CWD zone. Plus, if you hunt a WMA you need to get a free permit. Don't know what that is all about.
 
Oh, I almost forgot, because there are some mule deer out in western Kansas you can apply to draw for a tag to hunt them. It's 10$ more than the whitetail tag though but allows for either/or in species, buck or doe.
Did I mention that it's confusing..? o_O
And kinda expensive... ;)
 
Looks like I'm not deer hunting until mid November. Went to Maine for a bachelor party/bear hunt in September though. Maine is beautiful, road to my bear stand:

View from the stand, brought the 50 Beowulf. I did not get a bear, passed a small one that came in the first night right at dark. Very cautious and careful critter, stayed a minute at the barrel and left. Came out right under my tree stand.

Between 8 of us we only got one small bear but a good time was had by all. Great memories and a good bunch of dudes:

Mom and fawn (just lost it's spots within the last couple weeks) walked by my stand and about an hour or so later came back and decided that bedding down 20 yards behind my stand was just right. Watched them for about an hour and they got up and moved along. Fawn was too young to be without mom so I gave her a pass.

I had a new bowtech compound. I got tired of all the tuning, adjusting, peeps, releases, pins, kissers 20161113_095258.jpg , whiskers, blah blah blah.
After I tried the recurve, i gave the Bowtech to my youngest.
No regrets. I like to keep things simple.
Here's last year's buck, taken with my recurve.
 
I havent gotten to hunt much this year. Missed Puanahulu archery and Muzzle loader, but I did get to do some hunting while i was home on Molokai, and then right after we got back my buddy took the day off and we went goat hunting.
Were moving into bird season, and i just finished working on my "family" hunting rig, so me and the kids will spend some time driving around doing that. Might be able to get some mammal hunting in also :D Also got a few days lined up for running dogs for pigs (which isnt my favorite thing, but I can always use the meat).

I remember back in the 60s when roe and fallow deer were looked on as vermin in the UK. Now its a different matter and you can pay silly money to shoot a representative buck. I was very lucky that i had a great bit of hunting ground when i lived in England that never cost me a penny for over 30 years. If i never shoot a roe or fallow again, I've shot more than my fair share.
Now i own my own hunting ground, but as I've got older i like to see them around more than shoot them. I must have meat for the freezer though. I have a mate who lives in Norway who is a keen roe hunter but does not have access to any hunting there. So he comes here to my place and hunts every year. He got a bronze medal buck a couple of years ago.
