Good start to the year. Over the weekend my little brother came to visit. We took the girls on a squirrel hunt and killed 10 squirrels total in about an hour and a half. Good crop of tree rats this year. Here's me and my girls with 9 squirrels:
As we were skinning these 9 we saw another one. We ran it up a tree and it didn't go too high. My 8 year old says "I want to shoot that one!" We have been out shooting a few times, they kinda like it but it has been slow learning for them. It was tough getting her set up shooting up in the tree but finally she was able to get a sight picture and 3rd shot she nailed it. Jill with her first squirrel:
Went home and got to cooking. Braised squirrel and then browned in butter/oil until crispy with mashed potatoes and gravy made from the drippings. One of my favorite meals of all time:
I didn't get many pics but the next day we went camping to chase the elk around (end of the rut) and shoot squirrels. Had a great time, heard some bugling and watched some rut activity and ate a bunch of squirrels cooked in the dutch oven. Great weekend.

Very nice. Are those Abert's squirrels? We have them in NM but haven't gone after them yet.

Yessir they are Abert's. They are big, delicious and fun to hunt!

Looks beautiful, what area of Sweden is that? My wife just came back from there last week after visiting siblings in Skåne and Stockholm, I go every other year or so.
Is he able to bring the meat back to Norway?
I live in Västergötland about 3 hours north of Malmo & 50km south of Borås. I was down in Skåne a couple of weekends ago working my spaniel on a rough shoot for pheasants and partridge. We hunted on a small island about a mile of the coast. It was a test for the Labrador retriever club. The guns had a mixed bag of about 30 birds.
Yes, he has taken a roe deer back and half a boar one time.

Secured new land, a local farm. Harvested this buck first night hunting the new ground. 158 dressed out.

Wanker, eh? I drove through Flagstaff on the way to the canyon ohmaybe 13 years ago. Looked like a nice town, and the pine forests were beautiful.

Opening day for deer and elk here in Montana. This is the first year the Mrs. has ever been hunting. She's a crack shot with her Ruger M77, took this guy with a 200 yard off-hand shot straight to the boiler room. The buck fever got her pretty bad and she didn't even see the 4 other much larger deer, the biggest was a wide and tall 4x5.
She even skins her own deer, what a gal!

Got a bear back in June, and filled my antelope tag couple weeks ago. Small antelope but it was a tough unit and I was glad to see him. Nice hunt, with a good stalk. Headed to idaho to hunt Elk next weekend. From what I’ve read my expectations are pretty low for elk, but I’ve got a bear tag and wolf tag as well, so maybe something interesting will happen one way or the other.

Two yearlings that hung around after I took a bad shot on their mom. Bow hunting is a new experience for me. I've got to learn how to keep my calm and take a steady shot no matter what.
These next two are of a buck I shot before the doe. He quartered toward me and after seeing him look toward the woods that he stepped out of, I was afraid he was going to step back into them and disappear. I'm extremely disappointed with this deer, as I thought it was a different one that I wanted to cull out of the herd. When this guy looked at me head on he had the same shape of antlers as the one I was wanting to cull out. I was unable to see that he was an 8 point instead of the small 6 that I wanted to put into my freezer. Initially I thought my shot was a bad shot, until I was able to recover him. I heard the impact after I made the shot and was able to track the blood trail for about 300 yards or so. After tracking it for about 2 hours I lost the trail and was unable to recover him until the next day. When I recovered him, he had been swimming in a nearby pond all night and the turtles had already begun eating at him and he was full of water. When I examined the shot I took, I noticed that it entered into the front left leg and stopped abruptly. I guess I took a really good shot to the point to where my arrow hit flush with his humorous and did not deflect to penetrate into his chest cavity. I guess it was some consolation to see that it wasn't an awful shot after all. I initially thought that I gut shot him.
Looking forward to making my next 4 tags more productive than the first 2. So much to learn!

My first buck of the season here in Tidewater Va. 14 1/4 spread, 7 points, 170 lbs. Looked pretty healthy from all the fat he was carrying, but cleaning the jaw bone for VA's DMAP program uncovered a badly infected tooth/jaw. He wouldnt have made it through the next year.
Still, yet another successful harvest with my .300 Blk SBR

A B-tag filled with the Garand. Sorry for the gore, did my best to poke everything back in but the a-max didn't leave much of the ribcage intact. Easiest field dress of my life though, reamed the poopchute and shook him from the hindlegs like I was stealing his milk money.
