On the recent trip to Hondo, I made it a point to go through Fredericksburg to visit Cimarron Firearms' store, Texas Jack's. The fact that this took me around Austin and San Antonio traffic was no coincidence. Anyway, it's a great shop with a whole bunch of their guns on display, ready for purchase. Along with CAS clothing and gear. What first caught my eye was the racks of gunleather, most of which comes from El Paso Saddlery. They had floral carved Theodore Roosevelt holsters and belts on sale for 35% off and as I looked through the stuff, I knew I'd have to get something. I moved onto looking at used guns, stopping to fondle a Colt Burgess replica as well as a Colt Lightning rifle by Pedersoli and then the new stuff. I handled some nice stuff but the only thing that really that tempted me to take home was a Chiappa 1892 .44Mag because they have the new fast twist. I mentioned something about the .44Spl while talking to the clerk and he said, "if you like the .44Spl, check this out". I knew I was in trouble when he brought out a pair of used Cimarron Model P's, both in .44Spl and both stocked in BarS TruIvory. One with 5½" barrel, the other a 7½". I agreed to give them both a new home, emailed the clerk a copy of my local dealer's FFL and perused the rest of the store. I knew that I needed to get some leather for the new guns and found a Theodore Roosevelt belt that was the perfect fit, along with a holster for the 5½" gun. For the 7½" I found a crossdraw Duke holster. I could have easily made a new rig for myself but sometimes it's nice for someone else to do all the work. Can't wait to try some favorite .44 Special loads in them.

Beautiful gear, both the guns and leather. And in one of my favorite calibers. Thanks for posting those pictures. I'm sure I'll stop drooling soon.

Wow, two gorgeous looking .44 Specials and two fine looking holsters and belt! You definitely scored big time at Texas Jack's!

Very nice! I've been wanting a Model P in .44 Special for a while, as it is my favorite revolver cartridge. I'm a local, but I am embarrassed to say I have never stopped in, even though I do own a couple of Cimarron Model Ps. My son has been wanting to go, so I reckon it's time to give them a try. I'm more than a little terrified of how much I might spend though.

Very sleek rig, lots of backgrounding, but very well done and even, and the carving stands proudly to give a lot of depth. Really nice rig.

Nice setup. how does the 7 1/2" gun work in the crossdraw vs the 5 1/2" gun. I would think one would want the opposite.

Not sure how Craig feels, personally, but for me, the longer barrels worn strong side are more cumbersome when sitting down, and are slower on the draw because they have to clear extra barrel. A guy with a junk shoulder like mine can have trouble drawing high enough with the long barrels. The crossdraw is a long motion anyway, so it's natural to stick the longer barrel on the far side - with the added benefit of letting the holster sort of lay across your thigh/hip at the crease when sitting down. Worn horseback, which I don't assume is actually of much concern to most folks these days (since horses and step over ATV's have been largely replaced by step in UTV's), the longer revolvers strong side press against the side of the leg more, jamming the grip into the shooter/rider, whereas a crossdraw, just like sitting in a chair, lays the longer holster nicely across the thigh/hip.

Absolutely stunning and a wonderful , smart rig you have, congratulations

Wow! Eye candy on overload. The faux ivory grips look really nice, and go great with the SA's and the leather! The best I've seen in photos, I think. Congratulations on a great purchase.

I was in San Antonio last August. I took a trip down memory lane on my birthday and drove out to our old family ranch near Camp Verde, midway between Kerrville and Bandera. Man, that brought back memories of long summers, a readily accessible gun cabinet with guns to shoot just for the asking, and hunting squirrels with an octagon 1890 .22 LR and mourning doves and bobwhite quail with a model 12 16 ga. It was truly heaven for any boy, indeed.

After finding the old ranch road I left and drove down from Bandera to Hondo. I went specifically for a rib eye medium rare, baked potato, salad, toast and a Lone Star at Hermann Sons Steakhouse out on Route 90. While you were in town did you stop there to eat?
