I wish for a Federal law to require all school employees, even the janitor to carry. If we can trust the care of our children to them we should have them protect them while in their care.

While I trust the custodian at my son's school to vacuum the floors, clean the lunch tables and scrub the toilets, that doesn't necessarily mean I trust them to be be carrying a gun - particularly when I don't think their immigration documentation would survive close scrutiny.

The Rockford school district started contracting out cleaning for at least some of their schools a while back. The company they hired to do it ended up with a bunch of people who could not get past the required background check. A fair number were not even eligible to work in the country. It was moderately humorous. I wonder what they ended up doing.

Why bring up immigration to broadly paint custodians as illegals? Not only is it not true, but derogatory. The custodian and janitor at my kids school are legal, and also teaches the karate class to the kids after school. Without a gun, the guy would take a bullet for any of the kids, with a gun, he'd be able to deal with any threat that comes. He's ex military, and by the way, a janitor is not as simple as it used to be, the guy has his Masters in Facilities Management.

An excellent post. Thank you, Yo Mama.

Well, I guess a law like this would force schools to be a bit more discerning in who they hire, then, now wouldn't it? Forcing anyone to carry a gun for any job that doesn't require lethal force as a requisite tool (i.e. LEO/MIL) is a whole other kind of foolishness, though. That said, an individual's refusal/inability to partake in that responsibility can be illuminating as to other aspects of their psyche, Freud and all that...

OH

HB373 would allow those with a concealed carry license to carry in government buildings and courtrooms

...and allows cities and other political subdivisions the option to pass laws forbidding such carry. It took the override of a governor's veto and two Ohio Supreme Court cases before state preemption became settled law and the Ohio General Assembly wants to give back to the cities some of the power to regulate where firearms can be carried? This is a very bad idea.

S0456 would outlaw bump stocks.

-----------------------------------------

With the Republicans holding the FL Senate 24 to 16, and the House 77 to 41 it's unlikely that any of these will see the light of day.

You have to give the gun grabbers credit for being persistent though. You know the old saying that you can eat an entire elephant, one bite at a time.

WI
(pronounced WHY? for good reason)

SB479 would create a registry that people can put themselves on to prohibit themselves from buying a handgun

AB579 would create a registry that people can put themselves on to prohibit themselves from buying a handgun

Am I the only one here having trouble getting my brain around this? Don't want to be able to buy a handgun? Then don't buy a handgun! Can one take oneself off the registry or is it a permanent thing? If you might buy a gun without remembering doing so, you have much, MUCH larger issues than the gun itself. Then again, I have a couple of guns where I honestly can't remember when I bought them. And a couple of lbs of powder that I bought and subsequently forgot that I had. And that one middle kid of ours. He just seemed to show up one day getting off the bus from school in 2nd grade. My wife assures me that he had been with us for years. Okay, maybe I see the point. :p
