Long time creepy stalker, first time poster.... I am looking at putting a 3-15x50 Toric on a Sako A7 in 6.5 creedmoor that I will use for hunting in Arkansas. It appears to be a really good deal for the money. I am not really used to a " high quality" scope. I have a Nikon Pro Staff 3-9x40 BDC on my Savage 220 slug gun and a pair of Nikon Pro Staff binoculars. They are definitely a cut above the Walmart stuff that I was used to having. I really like it, but I thought I would splurge and get a Nikon Monarch Scope for my first rifle besides a 22 mag. I was suprised when I picked one up in Academy, and I noticed it wasn't made in Japan. I knew with Nikon their better camera equipment is made in Japan. After doing way too much research, I am pretty certain I would get an awesome scope for the price if I go with the Toric. I just don't know if it is that much better the mid level scopes. I looked through some "higher end scopes" at Cabelas. They were really clear, but it is hard to tell inside the store. I did decide that I don't like the FFP scopes due the reticle being way too small at lowest power to see especially on a dark object. Any regrets going with a Tract or a different "premium scope"?

I've probably been in the woods too long. Before I departed on my last endeavor to wear out my boots,
brand names like Nikon and Leupold were popular. What's a Toric, and who's Tract ?

Appears to be a group of former Nikon employees that started building scopes. Toric is their top of the line model. You make a valid point about who are they. A warranty is worthless if their ain't a company anymore.

Tract is a new company that does not sell through distributors. Online only. They offer several versions from ~$400 up well into the mid-$700's. They claim to sell equal quality at prices $100-$200 less than the competition.

I have no personal experience. But I've read positive reviews from the few that have bought them. If I needed another scope now I'd strongly consider one of the versions in the $400-$500 range.

If you want to move up from Walmart quality I strongly recommend these 3 budget scopes in order of preference. All in a 3-9X40. All sell at around $200, but can often be found on Amazon or other places for about $150ish. I have and like some better scopes, but I'd not feel handicapped with one of these.

Burris FF-II
Redfield Revolution
Leupold VX-1

Next up is a Leupold VX-2 priced between $300-$350 depending on reticle. Hard to go wrong with one of those. The VX-3's are in the $400-$500 range and are some better. Not enough better to justify the cost in my opinion. If I'm spending $400 on a scope I think there are better, including the Tract.

At that price range this is a better scope.
