Hello Everyone,

I'm looking to get a new spotting scope for range shooting. My primary purpose for this spotting scope is to do some plinking with my AR-15 at ranges of 100 to 300 yards. I've tried some spotting scopes in the past and trying to see a .223 hole at 100 to 300 yards is sometimes a little hard.

Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions on what brand/kind of spotting scope would be good for this? I'm looking to spend somewhere around $100 to $200 is possible.

Thanks,
Stodd

20171005_155823.jpg I bought a Barska that was on sale from somewhere....cabelas maybe. It was in your orice range. It came with a nice hard case, with a nice soft case inside, and a sturdy little tabletop tripod. It has worked well for the money. I use it for some bp matches. It does take some squinting to see .223 holes.

If I were to do it over, I would shop for one that has an angled eyepiece.

Here we are using it to dial in a new Nikon scope on son's slug barrel.

OP....... Hope you check that link that ms6852 posted. That pretty much says it all. In my experience 200 yards is about the limit for some of the cheaper stuff. Beyond that you have to get some higher priced stuff that will have the optical quality that's needed to see clearly way out there. I've looked through some real high quality spotting scopes. Too bad I don't own one (maybe someday). For over 10 years now I've been using my cheap Tasco 18-36x 50mm that Natchez Shooters Supply had on sale. It struggles with small bullet holes at 200 yards but it can be done. 100 yards is easy. An angled eyepiece would be a plus also. On 36x at 200 yards side by side with a quality Nikon scope set at 36x the difference was amazing. That's why the Nikon costs more! (LOL). So if you want to see clearly out to 300 it would be better to save up a little more money and invest in quality. If you can look through one before buying it turn it up to max power and focus on something way out there. That's the true test. Here's the low budget 200 yds. and less special. IMG_1830.JPG
