Is anyone else loading 6.5 × 284
Recently got a Savage 12 F class 30 inch barrel and starting to load ammunition for it.
Just looking to start a new conversation.

Im waiting on dies and a stock for mine. Im running retumbo in my 6-284 with good results, so that's probably where im gonna start with the 6.5.

I got a used Douglas barrel for my savage and a redding bushing die. Just ordered som lapua brass tonight. Going to try H4831sc and hornady 147 ELD first once I get it all together.

Im using lapua brass 142gr SMK
44.5gr IMR4831 CCI BR-2 PRIMERS
I have a set or Hornady match grade dies ,also a Redding neck die. It's going to be my first time out with it. My intention is to get around 2800 fps to sight it in then go from there

This is a good bit over published loads but the note that came with my barrel said 52 grains H4831sc with 140 grain moly coated Berger. It had a target with it that was about .3 moa at 300 yards. I don't plan to load it nearly that hot.

That does sound a bit high. Im using the Sierra manual and coming in about half of the published data.

That can vary based on case manufacturer, and lot. I gave away my 6.5 neck sizer or id perp a case to tell you what mine are.
