James Yeager's latest .40 sucks video.

This is also the same guy who got outsmarted by a concrete wall. See Episode One of a show called "One Man Army."

IMHO, a lot of these guys are just shock-jocks who say provocative things in order to get hits. Because hits = money. Because none of them have the appeal of a guy like Hickok45, whom they still can't compete with. Still, there are some real idiots (cough...Yankee Marshall...cough) drawing a decent check from YouTube.

I carried my Glock 23 through Katrina floods and now Irma rain.

Why? I wanted more power than a 9mm, especially around wood fence barriers and looters in cars. .40 still has it's place. My Glock 34 never left my backpack in the truck. Yeager has a loose wire. Every once in a while that wire connects and he comes up with something smart, the rest of the time he's a looney.

I don't know that .40S&W sucks, but it is on the decline as far as sales are concerned. There are also ample examples of .40S&W pistols not lasting as long as their 9mm counterparts given high round counts. This is of course a result of taking a pistol designed for 9mm and chambering it for .40S&W, *cough....Glock.....cough*.

I own only one .40S&W, a SIG Sauer P226 X5. In this all steel 5" barrel pistol the cartridge is a pussy cat, and I have no doubt the all steel SIG will last a long time given how heavily constructed it is for a steel pistol, since it has the same slide rail dimensions etc as the aluminum alloy pistols that the design originated with. That said I have no inclination to carry a .40S&W for any purpose at all. Modern 9mm duty ammunition is so good that putting up with the higher recoil, reduced capacity, and higher ammo/component costs just isn't worth it to me. Given two pistols of identical size and weight most shooters of just about any skill level can shoot a 9mm pistol better than a .40S&W, I am no exception. I can flat out drive a 9mm faster than a .40S&W while maintaining acceptable accuracy. If the goal is to deliver multiple fight stopping hits as quickly as possible with an adequate caliber the 9mm wins.

Now that said I won't tell someone they are "wrong" to carry a .40S&W, as long as you can run it and hit stuff with it then you and your gear are good to go in my book.

You're right about the 9mm pistols being chambered for 40sw. That was a bad idea and as a result, abandoned. If they were made for 40sw like the HK USP for example they will be proven better than 9mm. I have a Glock G29 with a 40sw barrel and a stouter recoil spring (to handle the 9x25 Dillon) that made the 40sw feel like shooting a 22 pistol. Load it with strong 180s like the Underwood and it will have deep penetration.

Still, he is worth some comedic relief sometimes. Personally, I prefer HIckock45 and Paul Harrell. At least they are not abrasive and seem to know what they are talking about.

Both of those guys are excellent. Nutnfancy gets a little long winded sometimes but generally is pretty level headed. Military Arms Channel also excellent.

Some of his reviews are very week in contain.

Definitely, I don't host Yeager's commercials advice.
Here
Harrell, Forgotten weapons and HIckock45. Lately C&Rsenal for amusing.

The .40S&W doesn't suck. The release of CZ P10C has been Godsend for me. I heard so much about the outstanding trigger and ergonomics on the U-tube, but when I handled the actual gun my findings were almost completely different. I no longer have to waste time watching mostly clueless U-Tube personalities and just wait to examine actual product myself. I'm deeply grateful to good folks at CZ for making me realize this.

Here in "The Peoples Republic of Newyorkistan", we are not allowed to own any semi autos with more than ten round magazines. Years back, I sold my 9mm double stack, and bought a Sig 229, 40S&W, 10 round mag. I like the round, reload for it, bought two more 40s and have no intention of dumping them any time soon.

thats a good point I bet if someone is limited in mag capacity of 10 rounds lots of folks would choose 40 or 45 ,

That is virtually a fact, I know I would. Lots of people buy 9mm for their capacities but limit them to something like 10 rnds or less and they'll go for the big bores.

Have you ever shot a 10mm? It's a high performance cartridge that makes one nostalgic about a time when men were allowed to be men and Americans were allowed to be Americans. It's like asking why the devotion to the 1968 Dodge Charger R/T. The 10mm is the most versatile auto cartridge ever developed. It's useful, it's American, it makes you feel like you've just touched off a little more than usual, like say, stepping into a 426 Hemi...

Um, I like 10mm a lot but I'm not so... over the moon about it. It is a nice accurate round that is goof for woods carry in my most accurate platform (1911).

When I feel the need to go all He Man manly America! man I usually just grab the .44 mag. I still have a box or two of Garrett Hammerhead 310 gr hardcasts from my Alaska days that really give the thump.

Umm kind of ,but not really. We are limited to 10 rounds here. And most of my friends and guys that I know still have 9mm and don't own a 45.hell I don't own a .45. Have to think about most people don't reload so cost of ammo is a factor (myself included here ). I would consider people here "gun guys" ,and look at things differently than the average Joe. I completely see where you are coming from though. It does makes sense if you are limited on capacity (the major advantage of 9mm )to take up a round with more horse power

One thing about .40 is that even during an ammo shortage, there always seems to be some on the shelves. At least in my neck of the woods.

Can't believe I read this entire thread! I actually found it quite entertaining. Post #12 was the highlight of the entire thread. Great job! Among my handguns, I have a dozen or so nines, and five forties. I'm a long time reloader, and load for everything I own. I find the forty to be a great cartridge to reload. Great selection of bullets and weights, most any pistol/shotgun powder works well, and easy to load up or down depending on the power factor needed, brass is cheap and readily available. I shoot the nines more than the others, but I'll always have a place for them all. My usual carry gun is a Glock 27, but now and then I carry a single stack nine. I'm comfortable with either one. My forties aren't going anywhere.

Don't own a 9mm or a 45acp but have a lot of 357 , 38, 45lc and of course 40 sw. 380 still is in my pocket most days. No caliber sucks, just some of the people who shoot them.

I'd not been attracted to 40. be that blast, recoil sensitive, this wasn't a cartridge that ticked that buy box. Some years later I'd heard of the adapted 9 format having breakage issues so the 40 was out of mind. The 10 round limitations does have me considering the 40 when I see sales of some models. Anything with practice so this isn't an automatic rejection. Considering price and that I'm not reloading, the 9 fits a nice point of wallet comfort.

The online You Tube channels I enjoy are for a balance of entertainment and aspects that are educational. Hickock's content is enjoyable and educational from start to finish. I don't have to read the title just that he has a new video I want to watch. As far a Yeager, that's how he operates to generate views. In that regard many You Tube creators apply some form to gain those views. For those channels that I don't like the personality or format, I don't watch. You Tube has no end of alternates to wade through.
