I like to have one of my CZs zeroed with an inexpensive round for general target practice and plinking. I took the CZ 452 Varmint, with its Weaver V-16 riding in CZ rings, to the range yesterday and fed it over a hundred rounds of Aguila Standard Velocity.

Please note — all shooting was done at 50 yards from a concrete bench using a Caldwell Rock BR and rear bag of same make. The larger dots are 3/4 inch while the smaller dots are 1/2 inch. The temperature was in the 60s, and I had to wait out 6 to 8 mph winds under an overcast sky. All shooting was done with the scopes set at their maximum magnification.

Groups started out like this with the stock's screws torqued at 24 and 16 (action and barrel, respectively):

After increasing the torque (FAT Wrench) to 26 and 20, the groups tightened:

After adjusting windage and elevation here and there, I stopped after these last two groups:

Finally shot a one-holer! Possibly the dice of the Aguila-flyer finely rolled five superior rounds, or I finely got my act together, whichever.

As a control, I took my Remington 541-THB (smithed by Voelker) along.

A sacrilege for such a rifle, I know, but that is a very clear and reliable old Swift 6-18X44 riding in Tasco high rings on Weaver bases. The customization nixed it for "Sporter Class" usage, so years ago, I pulled its T-36 and Leupold rings for an Anschütz and slapped the above sighting devices on the 541. Actually, the combo works well in our local 50 yard silhouette match.

The heavily coated Aguila rounds squeezed into its match chamber, and after seasoning the clean barrel, we finished with these three groups:

I brought windage left after the top group. A bit too far as indicated by the middle group. A click back right yielded the POA-centered bottom group. I wished the bottom group would have been tighter, but frankly, I was beatdown after over two hundred rounds, so I packed 'em up for the drive home. It was a fun morning with two rifles that I don't shoot very often.

The only ammo thats shot better than the Aquila standards in my .22 have been cci minimags. Even the cci standards which have always been my favorites didnt produce as good a groups.

Thats some fine shooting too

Very nice. Haven't shot rimfire for groups for a long time. Wish I could get one of my old rotc rifle team winchester 52s with diopter/globe sights (sadly shut down during late 1980s base closings). Was always impressed with how well a good rifle could shoot even so-so standard velocity ammo.

Does the scope have an internal level? I wonder if with the height above bore and high magnification if slight canting might be opening your groups (assuming you have parralax adjusted out) since they appear to string in a half moon. I remember my shooting coach constantly preaching at us about it.

Good shooting. Aguila hi velocity copper plated ammo shoots lights out in my Browning T Bolt. All in all, I really like the Aguila 22 ammo.

If you can find it, try the Aguila Rifle and or Pistol Match.

Years ago PMC made Target ammo that came in a yellow and white (I think) box and all my .22s shot it extremely well. When I ran out of it I was in the wilderness until Aguila came out with the two match rounds.

Those 541's are just beautiful 22 rifles!! The Aquila shot really well for ya at 50 yds. I have a 452 Varmint as well as a couple 541's (S and T). The 541-S is one of my favorite rifles!

I'm shooting it in my CZ 455.

I purchased 5K rnds of Aquila SV last year after reading some reports on the internet. Seems CCI SV and Aquila SV are highly regarded as about the best none target ammo being made. I would have purchased CCI but none was available at the time.

My buddy tested the Aquila against about 5 other brands and his conclusion was it was the best.

I guess I'm about to buy another 5K if I can find it.

That used to be the case, but they have recently changed their labeling from "Eley Primed" to "Aguila Primed". I hope that you are correct, but from what I have heard the jury is still out.

That is a fact, Systema1927, and it's a frustrating situation. I have had online ammo sellers sending me emails as of late with Aguila SV prices hovering below and above $200. If the photo shows "Eley Primed", I'm jumping on another case on payday.

Thank you - this is good to know. Tangentially, I've been sitting on a ton of Wolff Match Target which is also an outstanding value (accurate) - is this ammo still around? I've been out of the loop awhile. My stash will run out some day.

Don't sit on it too long. If the lube dries up, it likely won't shoot any better than Thunderbolts.

Yeah...it's kinda that good. I have rifles that shoot better with CCI SV, Lapua Master M, and one that eats Mini Mags like candy. What I don't have is a single rifle that refuses to shoot Aguila well and at around $22/brick that suits me fine for not having to stock so many choices.

Lately Theissen's has been carrying Eley Prime locally, just wish they'd save me the cartons!

I tried some of the super extra in my savage mark 2 and it shot very well. 10 shots in a ragged hole at 50yards. Im going to test it again and see but it might become my favorite

I've used plenty of the Aguila. The standard velocity has never failed to cycle my Bereta ARX-160.

Yes, the Aguila Standard Velocity would not reliably cycle the bolt on my Nylon 66 one cold winter morning. Before writing it off for semi-auto usage, I tried it in my accurate old Winchester 190. It ran like a top through that rifle, but it should; the barrel is marked "Longs or Long Rifles." If it's recoil spring is manufactured to handle the lower powered Longs then...
