Remington 700 Remage Project (warning pic heavy)

In 2016 I built a rem700 7mmRM with a Whidden V block, Benchmark barrel, Boyds pro varmint stock, thick recoil lug, etc.

It shot well, but was heavy, so I wound up shooting the animals with a different Rem700 and Win M70 I built last year.

Pierced primers and cratering are common problems when using stock Remington bolt in 6.5X47 Lapua and 6BR Norma because both use small primers. And Remington bolt have disproportionately large firing pin hole in relation to the firing pin.

These are fired from my Remington 700 223. They use large firing pin even in 223. Note the cratering and these are not hot loads.

CCI 400 (L), CCI 450 (M), Remington 7 1/2 (R)

Looks like you are in need of a new firing pin spring.

I got the stock here several years ago, I don't think that was the price then.

If I don't have a stock yet, I would probably get this one.

Nice.
I have a Stockys Stock, in that same blue color on my Remington 788, .300 Blackout. It is gorgeous. Mine isn't that same benchrest stock, but it is very similar.

No trigger yet. Scope will be from one of my rifles.

I've got a Timney Calvin Elite 2 stage trigger on my Remington. I was a bit disappointed with it, as I can only set the first stage to max 2lb. The second stage in around 3lb. I would much rather this be 3lb and 5lb respectively, just like my buddies AI which felt great.

I will say though, that the trigger is reliable and crisp. You can feel the build up of the first stage and the second stage breaks with a slight additional amount of force. The first stage is not like "removing the slack" of trigger travel. For example, my Yugo M48 has trigger slack which is taken up as you reach the firing point, but if you release the trigger, then the slack will not reset until you cycle the bolt again. In the Timney trigger, the first stage reset should you not follow through and fire. Having shot a two stage trigger, I feel strange going back to a single stage trigger. I get that precision shooters prefer single stage triggers, but thought this might be some interesting information for you.

Hey Ess45 if your not doing an ejector does the brass just back out using the extractor?

Yes. You will not burn your fingers either. I have burns from ejected brass from AR's but never from manually extracting brass from 308 bolt rifle.

Watch this video on how a single shot without ejector works, go directly to 5:13.

Decided to use my take off X-Mark Pro until I can get an aftermarket trigger.

Can the Timney Calvin Elite 2 stage be adjusted to 2 lbs. first stage and 1 lb. second stage. Is the trigger feel similar to Geissele SSA-E AR trigger?

Will order the brass and dies in a week or 2.

According to Timney, (link: https://www.timneytriggers.com/shop/2-STAGE-Calvin-Elite-Remington-Model-700-P75.aspx) the first stage is adjustable between 8oz and 1.5lb and the second stage 8oz to 2lb. My measured pull was slightly higher but I suspect this is my measuring technique more than anything. You'd want the second stage to be higher than the first stage otherwise you effectively end up with a single stage trigger.

I cannot comment on a comparison to a Geisselle trigger as I've never used one.

You might want to tune your XMP trigger first and see how that feels. If you feel it could do with being more refined, or isn't smooth enough then it will be worthwhile looking at other triggers. Do you know if your XMP trigger is in the scope of the trigger recall announced a while back?

Thank you.
My XMP trigger is not included in the recall. The trigger is smooth, I was able to lower the trigger pull to 3lbs but too heavy for my purpose.

Here's how this rifle shoots.

Lapua new brass. Case mouth were chamfered and run thru expander mandrel.
CCI 450 primers. 5 shots each target at 100 yards.
1,2 and 3 - Sierra MK 107gr. HPBT, Varget 30gr, .015 from the land. 0.32- 0.44" grouping
4 - Hornady 87gr. V-Max, IMR 8208 XBR 28.5gr, .015 from the land. 0.43" grouping
5 is fouling shots.

To those wanting to build a sub 0.5" rifle without load development, I highly recommend 6mm BR Norma. Recoil impulse is soft.

6mm BR Norma compared to my other rifle caliber.
From left to right: 6mm BR, 6.5 Grendel, 7.62x39 (AK47), 223/5.56, 308 Win (7.62x51).

Result of my range trip today.

New Lapua brass, CCI 450 primers, 5 shots each target at 100 yards.
1, 2 and 3 - Hornady V-Max 87gr, IMR 8208 XBR 28.5gr, .015 off the land. 0.38", 0.90" and 0.42" groupings. I don't know what I did wrong in target 2. :fire:
4, 5 and 6 - Berger FB Varmint 80gr, IMR 8208 XBR 29gr, 0.15 off the land. 0.36, 0.34 and 0.25 groupings.

A better/lighter trigger and a better shooter will most likely have a smaller and more consistent groupings. :)
