Ruger LCR 38 sp vs S&W 442 or 642?

The S&W 642 from the Performance Center has a trigger that has to be experienced.
At 15 ounces, it's easy to pocket carry.

I'd still own a 642, if only that front sight were replaceable...it's the one thing I can't get over. The silver-on-silver sight picture is just unworkable for me these days.

I just went through the same selection process. I've had a model 442-2 since 2009, and I'm getting rid of it due to the internal lock. I was debating LCR or another 442/642, and I ultimately decided on a 642. I found a used 642-1 with no internal lock for $369. I don't think I would have been unhappy with an LCR, though. If both were in front of me at the same price, I'd choose the S&W, but I don't think there's a wrong answer between the two. If you get a Smith, look for one that is Hillary hole free.

I paint my sights white base coat then add nail polish color Dot. I can see them good.

That's what I did, actually (well, used Testor's paint, but same idea) and it helped. It doesn't compare to my usual sights, though, which are .100" Dawson FO fronts. At my age, I do better with the FO and a narrow blade, allowing more light past.
