I'm being offered a HK P30 LEM V1 40 in a trade. It's not something I need, but I've had a HK itch for a little while. Leaving aside the 40 vs 9mm debate, is there anything positive or negative I should know about this HK? The reviews I've seen online are positive. It'll be primarily a range gun.

Best ergonomics of any polymer pistol. Reliable as a sunrise. Magazines are on the expensive side. LEM trigger has its partisans, although it's not my favorite.

HK P30; what a fantastically designed and incredibly reliable pistol. I love mine. I don't have the LEM version, so I can't comment on that other than to say many like it. If it is reasonably priced and you are ok with 40acp, then jump on It!

I have the HK P30SK (subkompact). For me it's the perfect ccw pistol. I've been trying to buy a full size to go with it.

I've got a P30L in 9mm that I converted from DA/SA to a V0 (light lem with hammer spur and de-cocker)

The LEM isn't for everyone, but it positively is my favorite defensive trigger. It's much like a 2-stage trigger, light take up then a break. My only issue with the P series is the longish reset, which can be (and I have) fixed by a trip to a competent smith.

Other than that, it's a fantastic gun, accurate, utterly reliable with superb ergonomics.

I had a P30 for a while in 9mm and finally traded it without looking back. It's a fine pistol but not exceptional in any way. I'd prefer a USP over a P30 any day.

Negative:
The grip was too small for my large hands even with all three plates on the largest setting.
The decock button is inferior to a decock lever in all ways.
Hard to find a good holster.
Whether you like .40 or not it's simply low-value on today's marketplace. If you're getting it in a trade you should be trading at a premium.

Positive:
I love the paddle magazine release.
Never had a failure in 300 rounds.
Good stock sights.

I just bought a P30SK V3. Haven't shot it yet but looking forward to it. Chose it after a long research looking for an upgrade to my Walther PPK.

I've got a LEM P30SK. Love it. Carry it often. Always shoots straight.

I don't need a 40, but sure wouldn't mind one.

I really like the LEM trigger for s carry gun.

I disagree. I think it’s the best decocking lever on any pistol from a combat / defensive standpoint.

Think about it: When you’re decocking a pistol it’s going to be after the action is over. It doesn’t matter if the decocking lever is easy to reach or not. But it’s not a good thing if the decocking lever is in a place where it’s possible (or even easy) to activate accidentally.

The decocking lever on a P30 is virtually impossible to accidentally activate during a high-stress situation because it’s completely out of reach if you’re maintaining a firing grip, yet it’s still fairly easy to activate deliberately with either thumb.

Question deleted - Too many red flags popped up, so I let the other person know I wasn't interested in the trade. I'll look for a HK after I sell one of my safe queens.

I prefer the P30-SK, I have two, one is the V1-LE-LEM, and the other a V3, LE, I think this model is a perfect EDC gun, and I don't have a bad thing to say about either one, the P30 is a fine gun, with all the same quality's , just larger, it's a full size gun, but that's not a bad thing, and you get more round count, 9mm or 40 S&W, you can't go wrong, there is something special about HK auto's they make great guns..

I have a P30 trigger variant 3 in 9mm. This gun is super reliable and accurate. The modular grip definitely works for me with my big hands. I wouldn’t hesitate to jump on a good deal on a .40S&W P30, and there aren’t too many service pistols I can say that about when I can have the same gun in 9mm.

Just another follow up. I had mine out today and damn I like the P30. As much as I disliked my VP9 the P30 is awesome. Once again I gotta say the trigger, V3, isn’t half bad for an HK. Still sucks compared to many but it’s a good HK trigger.

Anyhoo, mine continues to be reliable, accurate and a pleasure to shoot. It is my grab and go Gun if need be which is high praise as I have......well let’s just say my well of choices runneth over.

Shot my P30SK today and am pleased. 100 trouble free rounds. Both the DA and SA trigger pulls are to my liking. I like the location and operation of the decocker on the back of the slide. The paddle magazine release will take a bit of getting used to though.

I want to get some Talon grips to try. With the polymer grip, the gun moves a bit much in my hand under recoil.

Finally, at lest with my reloads, spent cases drop within 3 feet or so of my feet making for easy recovery of the cases. +P ammunition may scatter the cases farther and wider.

Just a heads up on your P30SK grip, try putting the large side panel on the side you hold your gun, either right or left, so that it fits the inside of your palm, and the small or medium on the opposite side and either large medium or small on the back, this makes a world of difference in a good grip and allows you to control your gun a ton better, you won't need talons if you do this, this will most often help you get the best reach for your trigger finger also , so you can use just the pad of the first joint on your trigger finger, try this I think you will find it works fantastic...
