Headed out today with the ol front stuffer but didn't expect to see much with gale force winds projected all day. Also, me and 2 other guys haven't seen but 1 decent shooter buck all year and that was during squirrel season, weeks before any deer hunting seasons started. It's been does and little scrub bucks all season long. Ended up being one of the more memorable sits I have had in a few years. Started seeing deer shortly after daylight and although the numbers seen weren' record breaking, I was literally able to see more than 1 deer at the same time for nearly 4 hours straight. This included 9 different bucks, 3 of which were definite shooters. One was an absolute monster. I passed up a marginal shot on him and decided to shoot another that I got to watch for over an hour before finally shooting him. I watched him whip a smaller 10 pt then run off 2 scrub bucks before bedding down for a bit. It was the same buck that was seen in august during squirrel season. What drew me to him besides a decent rack with good mass plus a split brow tine were the white spots on him in several places. Before shooting I noticed he had a white spot on each side as well as the skin pulled off his leg in one spot. He looks like he had been through the ringer. Besides the battle scars, he had lost probably 1/3 of his body weight over the last 6-8 weeks breeding as many does as he could.
This old warrior finally took a dirt nap at 945 am but did somehow manage to run about 75 yards with a dime size hole on one side and a quarter sized hole on thw other pumping out copious amounts of blood from a double lung shot. I was stoked to get to take a mature dominant buck , particularly on a day that I was not very optimistic about. Overall it was a terrific hunt getting to see so much action.

Nice buck! Way to make the best of a blustery day.
Windy and or rainy days are some of my favorites to hunt. Its rare to be in cold rain during the day here, and the wind and water screw up most critters senses.
I also think at times they are surprised somethings dumb enough to be walking around in bad weather. Ive had deer stand under a tree and watch me walk within 50yds of them during rain storms, lift my gun, then decide not to shoot.... nothing worse than dealing with wet, muddy, and bloody game.

Thank you guys for the kind words. I bowhunted Ft Knox for years and years and days seeing tons of deer were common along with quite a few Boone & Crockett deer seen each year. Since I quit hunting there, those kind of days have become rare and didn' remember how great those days can be until yesterday.

That's a dandy. You never know what will happen from day to day. You might go a dozen times and see nothing, then the stars line up and deer come out of the wood works. Congrates.
