Resizing lubricant

IMO cooking oils are not efficient for case lube and probably cost more for less effectiveness. Add the fact you need to add a process to remove them from the cases, it's just not the best choice. Lube like Imperial Sizing Was are very slippery lubes, can be applied with your fibgers and can be wiped off with a rag. Ease of use counts too.

I make my own, lanolin & alcohol , never had a stuck shell.

Same here

Lanolin oil, 99% isopropyl alcohol. Lanolin oil I buy from Amazon cheap. Iso alch comes from the red HEET that you buy as as a gas additive as it 99% iso. I run 12 to 1 iso - lanolin, but I know some guys run 16 or 18 to 1.

I’m an odd duck on lube. I steal the can of Pam from the pantry and use it. I put my cleaned brass is a plastic box, give it a quick spray, shake to disperse, resize til the box is empty, put the Pam back before it is noticed as missing. I then tumble the lube off before loading.

I like the Frankford/Dillon spray lube. Lanolin in alcohol.

$13 for 8oz

Recipes posted here, will need to find one to link.
Lanolin is available and you need low water content alcohol, seem to recall people using fuel drier -Heat??
Do not know how much you would save making it at home.

order this https://www.amazon.com/Home-Health-...27454&sr=8-1&keywords=liquid+lanolin+4oz&th=1

Then order 99% alcohol which you can also find on Amazon, Mix 10 - 12 ounces of 99% alcohol to 1 ounce of liquid lanolin and make your own lube.

I am not sure why folks don't use lee resizing lube. It is far less expensive than almost any other option out there. On sale it is about $2 for a tube. You can dissolve that tube in 16oz of rubbing alcohol and then use a spray bottle to spritz down a whole container of cases. It takes about 5 squirts to cover 200-400 cases, depending on the caliber. I have been using it for almost 7 years now and just barely had to pop open my third tube. I don't know how many tens of thousands of cases those first 2 tubes got me through.

After they dry (which takes about one hour), you are good to go and you don't have to worry about removing it. It won't damage primers or powder.

Yep. 1 ounce of liquid lanolin and the 12 ounce bottle of HEET mixed together is the best spray-on lube you can use. I was processing thousands of .30-06 and .308 cases for a guy with a Type 6 FFL, and this lube rivaled Imperial Sizing Die lube in lubricity. Regarding getting some lube inside the case necks, do yourself a favor and buy the Lyman carbide expander ball for your Lyman or RCBS resizing die.

I tried the Lee lube in alcohol. I can't get it to dissolve.

I used 91% alcohol, and squirted in some Lee lube. Shook it up. The lube is sitting in the bottom of the bottle. It's been months.
Every so often I shake it some more, but it still won't dissolve. Maybe I did it wrong ?

Saving money is worth something, saving time is worth a lot more to me. Hornady One shot case lube. The can is small and kind of expensive, but my oh my does it last a VERY long time, and unless I'm sizing WSM cases, it's more than enough lubricity, AND it saves me time by eliminating a second tumble.

I've tried all of them and they all work. An even coat is more important than how much. I just resized about 500 .223 and 300 .308 cases using dollar store "fake vaseline". It worked great and was very easy to clean off with just a swipe of a paper towel. One slide across the top with my index finger is enough for 3-4 cases. The last one case is nearly a dry coating but the case glides through the die with zero feeling of becoming stuck.

Yep, you've got the wrong ingredients. First, you can't use a lube that comes in a tube. You've got to use liquid lanolin that is sold on Amazon.com and other places. Second, you've got to use 99% isopropyl alcohol, which is what the red bottle of HEET gas line antifreeze contains.

I have never found a need for anything other than Lee. In fact, you can dilute it with water and spray it on and it still works great.

My initial experience was similar....but keep shaking....and shake it rigorously. It helps if you only fill the bottle to about half full. It will eventually dissolve. I used 1:9 lube to alcohol ratio. It will separate a little if sitting still for a while, but a few shakes will get it all mixed again.

I just purchased a bottle of case lube for $10.35 such a small bottle is there a homemade recipe for the stuff that will work just as well?
I saw on the net the homemade lube mix. It was for between 8-1 and 12-1 mix of "heet" and lanolin. Heet is the drygas mixture you can get about anywhere. I mix one bottle to one oz of lanolin and put it in a spray bottle. I put cases into a zip lock bag and pull the spray trigger about twice, shake and roll the bag and then walla, nice lubed cases. The "heet" evaporates very quickly and youre left with nicely lubed cases. Plus , the lanolin is nice to your hands. I haven't looked back since trying this

Exactly! 91% alcohol won't cut it. Too much water in it, and the alcohol/lanolin mixture will not remain in suspension (i.e. you'll have to keep shaking it). Oh, and no waiting 1 - 5 minutes like they say to do with One Stuck, just take them out of the bag and size them.

Coconut oil is the best popcorn topper. Warm some in hot water and pour it into a sprayer. Then spray a few squirts onto a plastic tub of popcorn and coat them with a swirling motion. A little goes a long way.;)
Once I tried this there was no going back.

Yes but what kind of alcohol goes with the popcorn and butter/coconut oil, we need to get that part right as well!

Had to stop drinking years ago but still important to get it right, I might need to share the info.:)

Lanolin and alcohol is easy to use. I dump cases in the plastic container, spray shake around, ready to go, no case cleaning necessary.

From tuxedos and filet, to blues jeans and popcorn, Jameson whiskey goes well with everything!

I will try lanolin and alcohol, eventually, if for nothing but to make a mess with my children. When the four cans of OneShot, I bought from someone who couldn't read, for two dollars a can, run dry. That should be awhile from now, I had two already.

What astounded me most about this deal was this specific human knows how to wet stone a knife. He knows how to use the kerosene and what it does to the stone. It opens the pores and enables the stone to get a good "bite" on the steel, so it can shave it down. He is literate, but usually can't be bothered with instruction. He had a squeaky case, lowered it, sprayed it, raised it and stuck it. Not a huge suprise. But being so inflexible and unable to adapt that he can not spray the cases first, then monkey with the dies, is comical.

Oh well. It got me a good deal. And he is happy knowing that he was right about OneShot, and is back to using excessive amounts of tractor gear lube and having the same problems with occasional misfires from "chunky" powder, that went in the case brand new. I suspect under close magnification one would see nicely lubricated chunks of powder.

"A man can lead a horse to water but..."

That’s funny right there!

This reminds me, since I already have the liquid lanolin, I just need to get off my duff (It's been months), get the 99% IO, and mix some up.
