Saw on on FB the other day and it looked interesting.

Doubt I would find a nice used one so I am researching likes and dislikes before going new.

Thanks

Thank you for the reply. No I have seen very little and even a search didn't show the links you just gave me. I have an older 5" 629 no dash but it's hard to get it away from my daughter so this smaller five shooter looks interesting and now I see a 5" blued rendering. Nice stuff.

Yup. Got one along side the short barrel S&W model 69.

The 2-3/4” S&W model 69 is an ounce or two lighter and has a better trigger, plus you can shoot .44 Magnums, if so inclined. It is also trimmer with fewer blocky edges. I changed out the front sight for a tritium night sight. I experimented with a C&S rough duty fixed rear but couldn’t get it regulated so switched back to adjustable rear since photo taken. I also have the 4.2” barrel model 69 that I carry as a hunting sidearm. I replaced the factory sights with XS Express Sights and I like them so well, I will put them on the short barrel model 69. Those sights are easy to acquire in great haste. It is a sweet gun.

The GP100 3” comes with better sights out of the box and balances well in the hand. The factory grips feel good in my hand. I will keep the factory sights.

All in all, the Model 69 was cheaper than the Ruger, but the grips and sights on the Ruger are better than the out of the box 69.

The action on my 69 is smoother and I tend to shoot it better. The GP100 is not as smooth but will shoot in. Both are excellent woods carry guns and with appropriate antipersonnel ammo would make excellent PD guns. Between the two I prefer the 69.

I have carried both in an OWB opentop Galco pancake holster under a light vest and jacket. They do not print. I also use a Miami Classic shoulder rig with speedloader carriers for concealed carry under a winter coat for faster access.

The Ruger is on top, S&W 69 on bottom.

I think I'm ready to buy the Ruger. I have two no dash S&W's .44 mag and 357 so it's time to try something new. Going to call my FFL this weekend.

I really like mine, and I did a range report on it a few months back.

You won't be disappointed.

Stay safe!

Well I am starting to really like this 3" .44 spl. I have had it out twice now and from a lack of on the shelf .44 special ammo I bought 200 Starline cases for $32 from my FFL and loaded up some 240g graphite coated SWC .

I'm getting a first round flyer but more time should settle me down.

I recently purchased a GP 100 44 special and I am really impressed with it. Accuracy at 7 and 15 yards has been very good with the various factory loads I've tried. The sights are great! Recoil is very mild and I really like the Hogue grip. I have large hands and it just seems to fit my hand perfectly. A very nice package. I plan on using this as my new primary trail gun. Got some CCI shot shell loads for snakes and will have to start reloading . Overall, I'm really enjoying this one!
