Its marked "Palmetto Arms", stainless or nickel with wooden grips. Is anyone familiar with this one? Pietta perhaps?

Thanks. Yes, it says, Made in Italy by Palmetto on one side of the barrel and .31 Caliber Black Powder Only, on the other side. Both sides are marked PM. Looks like a tiny bit of "Nickel" plating is coming off of the cylinder. Very small revolver. Looks to be in good shape though.

What model is it? Palmetto was the one who made the Root revolver replicas. If it's a Root you have a rare and desirable revolver.

I have a few Palmettos, a Root, a Whitney Navy and a .31 Colt. I can't say that they're high quality, but they work OK.
About the same as ArmI San Marco in its declining years.

The below is from: https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...d-you-find-a-whitney-revolver-replica.394355/

Palmetto

Palmetto produced revolvers for Dixie Gun Works in the early 1980's. Also, they may have sold to other distributors of that time who did not mark their guns. RPRCA has eight Palmetto revolvers in its collection.

Spiller & Burr – - Mfg date 1983 - Marked: SPILLER AND BURR CAL .36 DIXIE GUN WORKS, INC. (Palm Tree logo LtSd Frame)

Remington New Model Army - Mfg date not marked - Marked: REMINGTON NEW MODEL ARMY .44 CALIBER DIXIE GUN WORKS, INC. (Palm Tree logo on Cylinder)

1849 Pocket 6” Barrel (Actually 5 3/3”) – Mfg date not marked - Marked: Only Palm Tree logo on Cylinder.

1861 Whitney – Mfg date 1982 – Marked: 1861 E. WHITNEY .36 CALIBER

1861 Whitney – Mfg date 2002 – Marked: 1861 E. WHITNEY .36 CALIBER

(2) 1855 “Roots” Side Hammer 3½” Barrel .31cal. – Mfg 2003 – Marked: MADE IN ITALY BY PALMETTO (RtSd Barrel)

1855 “Roots” Side Hammer 5½” Barrel .36cal. – Mfg 2004 – Marked: MADE IN ITALY BY PALMETTO (Under Loading Lever)

The markings on the Remington New Model Army and the 1849 Pocket indicate that these were manufactured in the early 1980’s. Dixie Gun Works was marking their revolvers at this time and the only Palmetto identification was the Palm Tree logo. The 1849 Pocket has only the Palm Tree logo and .31 Caliber on right side of barrel. The Remington and 1849 Pocket of the early 1980’s appear to be assembled parts possibly supplied by other manufacturers. There are no manufacturer info, no date of manufacture, etc., except for the Palm Tree logo on the cylinder.

Another revolver by Palmetto observed is an 1849 Pocket with a 4” Barrel. It is marked: HARFORD POCKET MODEL (On top of barrel), (Palm Tree logo)PALMETTO BESCIA ITALY (Left side of barrel), .31 CALIBER BLACK POWDER ONLY (Right side of barrel). “Hartford” is a brand usually used by EMF.

There is a period from around 1983 to 2002 that Palmetto was no longer active in the manufacture of replica percussion revolvers. In 2000 they again appear. They had a very well done brochure announcing their complete line of firearms, among which, were six revolvers. In 2002 they produced a pocket catalog of their products which included twenty nine replica revolvers.

It is not clear whether they were going to produce these revolvers themselves or distribute revolvers of other manufacturers in addition to their own. The 1861 Whitney and the 1855 “Roots” Side Hammer were of their own manufacture. They advertise that they will produce the 1855 “Roots” in .31cal. with both the
3½” & 5½” barrel. Only the 3½” has been observed. Deer Creek sells the 1855 “Roots” in .36cal. with a 5½” barrel. Also, Dixie Gun Works carries the Palmetto “Roots” Revolving Rifle at a hefty $1500.

They do have a web site: http://www.palmetto.it On this web site they are a distributor of many firearms, mostly modern.

This information is taken from the book, "Replica Percussion Revolvers - A Collector's Guide" being researched by the Replica Percussion Revolver Collector's Association. http://rprca.tripod.com

Also a good read at.

Ill try to post a pic. OK, figured that out. Any clue as to the value? Seller wants $250 but I'm not sure I want the little thing that bad.

That is a replica of an 1863 Remington Pocket Pistol. Note that it was not listed in Dr. Davis' list of Palmetto offerings owned by his museum nor did he list Palmetto in his post as a maker of 1863 Remington replicas.
Here is the current Pietta version at Jedediah Starr:

Note that the description explains that this Pietta is nickel over a brass frame and I believe that was true of other brands as well.
Pietta also offers these in unplated Brass and Steel frames:

I believe that one can check a plated frame with a magnet as the magnet will be attracted to a steel frame through the plating but not a brass one.
I have not seen one of these by Palmetto advertised ever but as Dr. Davis says just being rare does not make it valuable. Value is determined by how many people want it. With an unknown Palmetto offering that is hard to determine since few know of its existence.
In your pictures, it appears not to have a front sight. You may want to see if there is evidence that it is gone or never was. It might be a bargaining point along with the plating loss if you wish to ask for a discount off the $250.
Old South also has the Traditions/Pietta steel frame version and it is currently on sale:

Midway has the Nickel and the Brass versions by Pietta:

Dixie also has all versions of the Pietta on sale now:

All the nickel plated Italians are brass frames, $250 is a bit high for a used brass frame gun, and especially one that is no longer made(parts hard to get). The 1863 seems very popular though and auction prices seem to exceed new prices some times. The steel frame above is on sale for less than $250 occasionally.

I'd say his price is way high. $175 is generous. They haven't been made in over ten years and that one is either out of time or someone was spinning the cylinder and marked it up. I have one and it is quite accurate. I had to get it in time and file the muzzle flat. The catch is dovetailed and the chambers (.316) are over groove diameter which contributes greatly to accuracy and velocity. The Pietta's are purposely undersized. They all shoot high no matter the maker. Someday I'll get around to making a taller front sight for it. Disappears in your pocket.

We load and shoot ours with 9-10 grains of 4F with our own round balls. Have shot .320s and .321s until we ran out of those and now just cast them up as needed from the .319 Lee mold. Bought a .323 Lee Mold for it too last year but have not cast any. It does just fine with the .319s whereas the Piettas sometimes have trouble and like the larger balls.

I'd like to get my hands on an 6-shot Colt Pocket Model by ASM someday.
