It's been some time since I've posted any new acquisitions. I've been lazy about pictures and such. Anyway, here are a couple of Star pistols that I bought within the past six months or so. I have owned a full-sized Star Super B 9mm for several years now and like it very much, so I bought the slightly smaller BM model when the prices got too low to resist. I bought the 25acp model CO because I didn't have a nice, well-made pistol in that caliber.

The Model CO in 25acp looks and feels like a good pistol. It's steel. The fit and finish are good. The trigger is decent. I can't shoot it worth squat, but that's probably my fault. It's a nice little pistol. Compared to the junk pistols in that caliber, it's a work of art. My Beretttas are nicer, but it feels like quality work.

The 9mm BM is shorter in the barrel, and I believe in the grip as well, compared to its larger "cousin", the Super B. The Super B has a breech that locks like a Browning High Power. The BM locks up like a 1911. Other than the size difference, they feel very similar. They are both heavy and have larger than tiny sights. This pistol shot well for me. I like it every bit as much as I do the Super B.

You might as well see the Super B, too. I bought it a few years ago for a little over $200. It's a very nice pistol. Everyone who shoots it likes it. After owning it for a while, I was happy to come across a couple more Star pistols that were in good condition and relatively inexpensive.

If I recall correctly, the 25 was made in the 50's, and the two 9mm's were both made in the 70's.

Thank you Blkhrt13. I didn't have a "nice" 25acp, and I already had a 22 and a 32 from the Beretta series. I thought it would be fun to try something different.

I have a Super B I got a couple of months ago, on a two-gun purchase for $500; the other gun was a used Winchester 94. The Star is so clean it looks unissued. I haven't shot it yet, but I admire the apparent quality in it.

I really like that.25 pistol. I'd love to have one like it. I don't have any "junk" .25 caliber guns, but I do have two Taurus PT-25 samples, one of which is in stainless, and a Bauer.

Congrats on the latest Star acquisitions! Love that little .25 too! Can't ever recall seeing too many of those at any of the gun shows I have been to over the years.

Those naughty people at AIM! I paid them $259 for mine just a few months ago. :(

The Star BM is a fantastic little pistol. I've owned a pair of them for over a decade, and aside from one that had a peened sear (easily fixed with a stone), they've been great shooters.

I also picked up a BM after being very impressed by my Super B. I got a similar deal to AIM's, I think it was gunprodeals, $225 but with 2 mags (that means AIM's price is about the same if you get the 2nd mag). I think the shipping was maybe a bit lower, a dollar or so... so the final deal was about the same either way.

The BM is a great little value at that price, in my opinion after shooting it. Closest comparison to another 9mm I have is a S&W 39-2: the BM is a tiny bit smaller, but still a comfortable full grip is achieved. The BM's steel frame makes it heavier, and recoil is milder (feels like a fullsize gun). Like the Super B, the BM's slide feels buttery smooth and easy to work, no hint of grit or resistance anywhere. It's really too bad Star went under, they made some fantastic pistols.

As did I, but remember, that was for the "select" grade and mine was quite select indeed. I subsequently bought a "good to very good" from Classic Firearms for less money, and it was less of a gun cosmetically. They both shoot great, and are one of the best bangs for the buck out there. Get 'em while you can.

Thanks RUT! I feel better already. The one I got earlier was barely used.

A friend has a BM that shot ok. I took it and after looking it over I realized that it was a quality build. I had no other experience with one.

The muzzle was .004 smaller than the inside of the barrel bushing so I fixed that. The pistol went from a 5 3/16 group to an inch and a half with the same ammo at 20 yards.

Nice piece!

Re: AIM, the price drops as the condition does, so you probably both got great looking less used pistols. But at $200 for a shooter, still seems like a great price.
They have a retail store, so any OH resident close enough can pick one up without shipping or FFL fees. Their ammo prices are excellent, too.

They also offer a LE discount on other than guns and ammo.

Congrats :) . I was recently looking for a full 5" single action and ended up picking up a really nice Modelo star super B myself :) . In a nutshell it's basically a Spanish Hi-Power varient. It looks strikingly similar to my FEG Hi-Power and it has the Browning linkless cam block action in it.

Here's my FEG P9 Hi-Power

The fit and finish on the super B is excellent and as noted the action is buttery smooth. It definitely has the smoothest single action that I've ever had the pleasure of fondling. The only action I can think of that's as smooth as the one on the super B is the action on my 1891 Chilean Mauser, that says a lot :) . I haven't had it out to the range yet but if it shoots as good as it feels I'll be real happy with it. Now I'm on the lookout for other Modelo stars to add to my collection.

The $200 versions are in stock, with a better finish.
Yes they are. I was referring to the $170 price for a beater to refinish, but honestly, you just can't go wrong with the price these are going for. These are great deals.

I just bought one from Aim. Should be here this Friday. I currently don’t own a handgun, and after long deliberation, I finally pulled the trigger on this. For the price, I don’t think a guy can do much better.

Nice guns, I like them all.
1911 and 1911 inspired pistols chambered for the 9mm cartridge always sound good to me.

Got it! It’s in good shape, some holster wear but no rust or putting or anything. Came with the original box, manual, one magazine, and a cleaning rod.
Pics!
