Gang there are some new tactical GP100s from Wilson Combat/Robar:

Gussied up with custom grip panels, DAO, sights, and many other things. Only thing is they want $1755.00 for one. Woo, must be a good revolver or at least I'd hope so.

Like most Wilson Combat products, I think their main merit is as a show-off gun or for collecting. I personally don't believe you need an almost $1800 revolver to be effective for defense or "combat" but that's just me.

What do you all think about this souped-up run of GPs?

While I really like my Wilson Beretta 92 Brig Tac, and feel it's a good value due to the mods being on it I would have wanted anyway, including a slicked up trigger, I feel this particular collaboration is so far overpriced as to negate any real value.

I'll pass. I'm also not really a fan of DAO full sized guns. I like having SA operation as an option.

I'm sure someone will buy them though.

I actually like the looks of it and I am not a big double action Ruger fan. Seems a bit pricey for what it is unless I missed some uber upgrade in the wall-O-text description. Not sure I would call any revolver "tactical". And there is absolutely nothing "tactical" about that holster...

Yes I saw those "green monster" (or in this case, black monster) holsters for them. These have a bad rap in the military and I'm not sure why they decided to use them.

Tactical revolver to wear with my tactical pants and shirt with my tactical holster while I drive my tactical ford fusion over to the tactical grocery store. By the way, all the items I mentioned cost 3X the normal ammount because they are the tactical version.
Oh, and shouldn't the guns be black or FDE versions in order to truely be considered "Tactical"?

There's a sucker born every minute.

Nice gun. Seems to me if you wanted a nicely-tuned & smoothed "turn-key" revolver, this would be a decent option. If you bought a stock GP100 and had a gunsmith do all this work to it, my bet is it'd set you back more than you'd pay for this gun. They pretty much spell that out in the wall-O-text.

Seems they also remove a standard Ruger feature - value.

It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's not a standard Ruger, either.

Look at it this way - if you're a revolver nut, and it gets some other people hot on revolvers, it ain't entirely a bad thing, is it? ;)

Actually I like the gun. All of my center fire revolvers are 44 and up so I wouldn't be interested but it is a nice revolver and a lot of thought went in to it [+ some good salesmanship]. Good luck Wilson Combat / Robar .

I can't get past all the BS in the Wall-O-Text. There is so much hyperbole in there it makes my head swim.

I'm with you Ray. I'm sure they're very nice guns, but if I wanted "gussied up" I wouldn't buy Rugers. I'd rather buy 2 standard GP-100s but that's just me. I bought a "work" pickup truck for the same reason. I got a good quality, rugged truck for 20K+ less than the one with all the bells and whistles. I must be in the minority though since I see a lot more $60000 dollar trucks out there. Guess I'm just a hillbilly.

I love Rugers not because they are fancy, but because of their value, strength and the elegance of their design. They are all beautiful to me, because that's what a good gun looks like.

My truck is a $750 danger Ranger that sits beside my garage until I need a truck. I'm a hillbilly, but pose as an educated man during the week and have to drive 60 miles a day to do so. My Civic Si gets 30mpg... at 100mph. I use the truck when I need to haul something else :)

I'm not saying it's good or bad, it's just not for me. I love a really great deal as much as a really great gun, so when you combine the two you start competing for my dollars. I can't say I'm really calculating its affect on buying patterns. If it proves that significant of a gun, so be it.

Huh......
Value. Yep. Strength. Uh huh. Elegance.................................. Well I'm sure some folks would consider Rossi O'Donnell elegant, or Chris Farley graceful, but not everyone. I've always considered Ruger DA revolvers to have all the elegance of a brick through a window.

Just ribbing of course. :D I like the GP100 for its strength, value, and simplicity, but I've never heard them described as elegant before, and it just made me chuckle. They are pretty nice looking guns.

Well, I didn't mean it in that way. I was referring to the self-contained trigger group that comes out of the bottom as a unit, and the double-sided frame. By design, I meant design, not styling. :)

I kind of figured, but the analogies immediately flew into my mind, so I couldn't resist. All in good fun.

I recently took apart my SP101 because the action felt sticky. The design and simplicity was a joy to fiddle with.

I had to check out the link. They do make a good case for a revolver in general and it appears to be an awesome gun. I'll bet most of them sold will end up in a safe to be taken out and fondled occasionally. I'd be afraid to scratch the finish or fret over getting the black off the cylinder of a "museum" quality gun. I doubt you could sand a scratch out and match the finish like you can with a standard brushed finish. I'm not really informed on what very high end revolvers cost so that may be why I can't get over the price on this gun. Very nice gun, just doesn't suit me.

Here is Chris Farley being pretty darn graceful...

But I agree, I wouldn't go for a Ruger to be engraved or fancied up, I go to Ruger for a working tool that'll do what I expect of it and last four generations...or more.
