we are going to hunt rabbits this week end as the weather is to be nice(in the 40,s) after a snow yesterday and 28-30 degrees, I am taking this older light weight rem 870 in 20 ga with mod choke and 1oz of #6 shot. I used the shotgun on doves last fall and did pretty good with it and I do like the light weight as I get older and doing much walking. it will be a good time with friends. the story of this 870 is I bought it at a friends estate sale and after the sale I was given the extra barrel as it was the only rem 20 GA LT barrel at the sale and they thought it belonged to the 20ga LT. it is a plain mod choke(cy code), on the shotgun was a vent rib mod choke(xv code). eastbank.

Use to borrow a friend's Ithaca Model 37 in a 20 gauge with a plain 26" barrel. We typically hunted for pheasant and grouse with the occasional rabbit thrown in for good measure. That gun was a pleasure to shoot and Ioved it's lightweight as we often did more walking than we did actual hunting! When I bought my own upland game shotgun I went with a lightweight Model 870 20 gauge with a 26" vent rib barrel and it was just as nice to use as that old Ithaca!

yes you are right, and the 870 is marked LW and not LT. eastbank.

Very nice gun. Back in my neck of the woods for hunting there's a strong preference for the non-ribbed barrels. I think it's more just that it's an indicator of an older 870 rather than a functional thing but people love an old 870.

6.1 lbs with the 28"vent rib barrel. this late 50,s model 12 in 20ga weights 6.8 lbs with plain barrel. it was in the mid 30,s today and warmer this week end, the rabbits should be out. eastbank.

My Father in law passed away a few years ago and left me his Rem 870 LW 20 ga. I love it and he took a LOT of bunnies with that gun over the years.

When I was a kid we hunted rabbits with a .22 single shot for sitting rabbits and a 410 for runners. A 20 ga was considered cheating:)

well no rabbits, but several loads of wood cut. maybe it will be better on weds after the rain. eastbank.

Those brush piles ought to hold a few rabbits. That is if you haven't shot them all already.:D

I build brush piles for the critters, but I can't hunt them this close in. Too many Cali neighbors. The owls hunt them tho and hang out near my house for the rabbits.

A rabbit hunt was one of my favorite pastimes as a kid. I used and old pump 22 Win that someone gave me.

If I'm going to hunt small game with a shotgun, I'm usually carrying an Ithaca model 37 featherweight in 20 guage. One of the nicest carrying / pointing shotguns out there imho.
