Been doing some poking around on Lubes, Anyone using Lucas Oil, Silver Bullet Gun Lube or even Mobil 1 ? Back in my IPSC days (when I could Run) several guys were using Mobil 1 fully Synth... I tried for a while, worked well. Just curious as to what some folks might be using other than Ballistol, Break Free etc.

Thanks,
JV

I'm using some Lucas Oil products (not with black powder), but I haven't used them enough to be able to assess them.

So far:

1. I like their packaging. It is very functional and sturdy. Not just a container, but designed to be easy to use. I like it enough that I've bought some of their empty bottles for use with other products.
2. I like that the products I've used so far do not have strong or objectionable odor.
3. It does appear that they have a decent reputation for quality.

I make a blend using Mobil 1 as the basis along with BG oil treatment and Marvel's Mystery oil. It has been working great for me. A quart of Mobil 1 and an ounce or so of the other two should last a guy for a long time.

Which Specific Products and on what if I may inquire? No fouling or buildup issues?

That sounds like Alchemy :)

I'm using their Extreme Duty Gun Oil and Extreme Duty CLP, but I haven't done enough experimentation with them to say anything other than they seem to work ok. No unusual issues noted.

I'm not using them with black powder.

I am NOT using them on black powder firearms. Sorry, I should have made that clear. I'll edit my previous posts to clarify.

Since we're in the black powder section, I'm assuming he's looking for an alternative to ballistol to be used with black powder guns.

I use this: https://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/00269233

It works great for me. Dilute it for cleaning, or use it full strength to oil the bore till you go shooting again. It's not a long term rust preventive, so before I put the guns away for the winter, I'll clean out the black powder lube and then re-lube for long term storage with..............Mobil 1.
