just bought a CZ 455 in 17hmr. Barrel isn't currently threaded, but would like it to be so. Are there any suggestions out there on folks that can do this work well? Been burned recently by a semi-local guy already on another project, so not wanting to deal with that again.

I can thread anything, price (not counting shipping) is between $65 (loose barrel or barreled action that fits through the spindle) and $175 (complete assembled rifle that needs custom collar) for virtually all bolt guns.

I love it, great looking work! I'm still planning on driving down with a rifle or two after elk season is over. Did you have to move the barrel band, or shorten the magazine on that lever gun. I'd like to have a suppressed .30-30 (probably a Marlin 336) one day, it seems like having one threaded would turn into much bigger job if you had to move a barrel band, sight, or magazine.

Barrel band and sight location were OK, but I did have to shorten the magazine tube. That one is a Puma .357, went 9/16-24 x .550". Everything is real close; end of the tube clears a can by about .005", and that's as far as I could move it back and re-drill the pin hole without interfering with the barrel band screw.

Lever guns can be a pain, especially when the barrels are stupid tight like the Pumas. You really can't remove them without damaging the receiver if you don't have a dedicated fixture, so I strip the actions and put the whole thing in my giant spider.

On that last picture, did you make an threaded collar that gave you a shelf to screw the suppressor up against?

Yes. That's generally necessary on rifles when the barrel OD is <.080" over thread major diameter. On that rifle, it's 5/8-24 with a barrel OD of .650".

I like to create an adapter with a shoulder for a many handguns, too, although that's more about not having to swap pistons around than alignment. All of my centerfire pistols have 5/8-24 adapters screwed onto whatever thread pitch they came with or I created.

Looks great, I'll be in touch. This will be a spotter profile barrel, so I'm assuming it will need to be cut back a little, but it doesn't look like you'll have an issue with that. Do you need any info about my suppressor other than thread pitch?

Also, do you find that the lathe chuck leaves any marks on the barrel?

Cutting & crowning is no problem, will go as short as 16.2", it's included with threading.

A chuck would absolutely leave marks; that's why I made the aluminum jaw inserts you can see in the first photo.

Hi MachIVshooter, i'm not sure how to post a private message anymore so I figured I would just post this here.

I have a Marlin 882 .22 magnum and a Japanese Browning SA22 that I would like threaded. Any experience with threading either of these? I would also like the front sights re-mounted on each and probably also the barrels shortened. The front sight on the browning has a dovetail and the marlin 882 has a set screw.

Please let me know!

Thank you, Dan

These are awesome. I really wish more firearm manufacturers would sell factory rifles with this configuration. Centerfire rifle, sporter weight barrel, and 5/8x24 threads with a shoulder for suppressor to seat against. I might have to send a couple sporter rifles your way one of these days.

Thanks for the post and the great photos.

I'm sure you are aleady aware, but the 455 is about the best gun to get a barrel threaded on due to the fact that it's a switch barrel system and the barrel can be removed by simply removing two screws. That way you can just give the bare barrel to the person doing the threading. Less work and less cost for you compared to a barrel that is screwed into the action.

I have a 455 and I ended up buying a spare .17hmr barrel and had that threaded because I didn't want to give up my .17hmr for any amount of time because I love that thing haha. Now I have the new threaded barrel on the gun and luckily it shoots great. Not sure I'll ever need the old one, but I have it just in case.

I was able to have mine threaded without shortening. The barrel is just barely thick enough behind the threads for a shoulder to index the suppressor on. I also bought a factory CZ 455 threaded .22LR barrel. Too bad CZ doesn't offer a threaded .17hmr barrel for purchase.

Hope that helps.
