Article: NRA boycott movement gains steam; Companies sever ties.......

The point is that these companies are in fact supporting a political campaign of hate and bigotry against American firearms owners. They are attacking the NRA because they think it represents the entire firearms community and controlling it controls us. Not acceptable.

Large public corporations have only one agenda, and their management has only one objective: to increase shareholder wealth. Corporations have no morals, and only care about political issues that directly affect their business. These companies are making a market assessment (right or wrong) that they will lose more business from people boycotting them because of their NRA affiliation, than they will lose from a boycott by NRA members. It is just a calculation of numbers and dollars. It’s all about next quarter’s financial results and tomorrow’s share price, and what they think will positively or negatively affect those numbers. Nothing more personal or sinister than that - just their assessment of the likely actions of their entire customer base.

I don't like product tie-ins

It never made a lot of sense to me either. Why not be in business for you and not get mixed into anything that might offend anyone?

Kind of like actors, you can be a left wing nut, as long as I don’t know it how can I avoid supporting your career?

If you rent cars, rent cars and that’s it. Go “anti/pro” on anything and you are going to upset someone and that makes zero business sense.

I am not sure about that.

It seems to me that if a CEO and Board of Directors wanted to increase shareholder wealth they would not be taking one side or the other, because taking sides alienates half of the country.

I think that a lot of these companies are controlled by people who have bonafide political goals and are using their power to achieve them. The most obvious are Silicon Valley internet companies that are moving to censor conservatives. Hardly a good business move, but they are doing it anyways.

Enterprise, Alamo, not sure if any more.
Avis comes to mind; don’t recall any others.
Kudos to FedEx - they stated that their policies don’t wade into the political realm. Standing by with shipping discounts for the sporting / shooting industries.

Excerpt from WSJ reporting (2/27) : Sticking To Their Guns

As we mentioned in yesterday’s newsletter, a bunch of companies have ended their affiliations with the National Rifle Association in the past week, amid social media pressure in the wake of the tragic school shooting in Parkland, Fla. Some brands with NRA ties have yet to respond, but on Monday FedEx made an unusually specific statement. FedEx said its positions on gun policy differ from the NRA’s, but the company added it would not discontinue its discounted rate program for the association because it will not “discriminate against any legal entity regardless of their policy positions or political views.” Meanwhile, Berkshire Hathaway Chief Executive Warren Buffett also weighed in on Monday, saying in an interview that while his company does not invest in any gun manufacturers, it would be “ridiculous” to say it’s not going to do business with people who own guns. Mr. Buffett, a Democrat who sits on the advisory board of Everytown for Gun Safety, added it would be a mistake to try to impose his personal views on an organization and its shareholders. “I’m not their nanny.”

I don't think we use any on the list of 15 that lycidas posted. But I am certainly going to check now. This is indeed a hate campaign, and it's sickining!

Someone else mentioned Amazon? Is that true? We do use them, but I'd love to cut that off anyway...
