I’ve held off for a while but the time has come for a new gun

Here’s my thinking
AR-15; not a huge fan, more a manual action guy myself, and I already have one I don’t use anyway, but as long as the platform is threatened by political morons SJW’s and other “pwecious snowfwakes” I want at least one, but more is always better

Glock 42; I’m intrigued by this micro Glock, it actually has decent ergonomics, balances and points well, it even has a set of tritium night sights installed, I love the way it disappears into the watch pocket of my jeans (something my full size CZ-75b can’t do ;) ) with the 42 I can literally conceal carry everywhere, it’s also my Favorite Number, it being the Ultimate Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything

Downside? It’s a 6 shot .380 :(. Okay, if you insist, 6+1)

Glock 43; it’s a slightly larger, less pocket carry (yes, in a pocket holster...) friendly micro Glock in a far more acceptable caliber, thing is, with a decent IWB holster, the CZ-75b conceals pretty well on me already, so all the 43 would be in my case is a lighter, smaller belt/IWB gun

Plus, I’m currently fighting sciatica (sciatic nerve pain) and the weight of the CZ makes concealed carry painful, the G42? In the time I tested it, no pain from that stupid nerve

So, what’s the recommendation here? AR/G42/G43?

Heavy artillery is a good choice; as is a passport from another country as an escape valve......

I wouldn't buy anything just to buy something if I didn't know what I really wanted.

This.

Please allow me to be blunt: I never had to ask your question. I always! knew what was next. Do some reading, learn the qualities of calibers other than 9mm or 5.56...

If you already own any examples of the type of firearms listed in your poll, then it's time to explore the guns of your grandfather's era: 1911s, bolt-action carbines, single-action revolvers and lever-action carbines.

There's an old saying, "If I have to explain..."

I really enjoy my pocket auto. (Mine happens to be a LCP)
I think the glock 42 is the best small auto out there.
I bought one to donate to a raffle for a good cause, but hsve yet to get one for myself.

Glock 42. My wife bought one when they were relatively new and hers is a truly impressive gun. I can shoot it decently well even with my big hands. She on the other hand has small hands and she is incredibly accurate with it. I would hate to do it because I might lose, but I would put her with her 42 up against me and my most accurate revolvers.

I feel that if you didn't get an AR over the last 2 or 3 years when they were selling for a song, and you never felt strongly about them to begin with... I wouldn't up and get one now in a semi-psuedo-banic fever just off of current events.

But that's just me. That's all I can contribute. For the record, like you I am also lukewarm at best to ARs and have one just to have one.

Well I believe in the "3 is 2, 2 is 1 and 1 is None." What this has resulted mostly for me over the last couple of years is buying duplicates rather than different brands and models.

So a 2nd or 3rd AR would be at the top of list (you didn't say how many you have).

After that I would review my gun collection with a eye for 2 is 1 especially for self-defense guns.

When you have all bases covered 10 fold and dozens and dozens of others. Sometimes what's next can be frustrating at times. Especially in today's political climate.

I still don't see the need to ask you guys what I should buy, especially when the choices are so different.

Right now the 42 is in the lead, as it fills a niche currently unoccupied, the micro carry/EDC

Any things in particular to look for on a used 42, I’ve read early models were fussy, and the only difference between this used 42 and a new 42 are the used one has tritium night sights and is $25 cheaper than new, the trits were barely visible under store lighting even when shielded under my palm, but even with expired trits they worked great as three dot sights

As for existing collection categories?

.22LR; Ruger Single Six, modified Ruger 10/22, CZ 452 Ultralux, Marlin Model 25, Ithaca 49
12 gauge; Parker VH Side-by-side
20 gauge; H&R Topper Deluxe Classic single shot break barrel
28 gauge; H&R Pardner Compact
9mm; CZ-75b (personal defense/home defense/IWB concealed carry)
5.56; S&W Sport II (home defense, middle finger to Antigun nannies ;) )
.22 pellet; Benjamin 392 and Trail NP2 (recreational plinking)

Why so many .22’s? Simple, backyard range, shooting the bigger stuff (9mm and above) requires a trip to the range I pay for membership in

OP,
On the 42, some have been fussy. My particular one worked well from day one. A buddy not so much, but it got better the more he shot it. One thing I'll recommend is that you detail strip the slide assembly and give it a thorough cleaning. Pay particular attention to the extractor plunger and recess.
Surprised the tritium would be faded already, the gun shouldn't be that old.

I'd generally agree but now we know the "collection" is only a few guns.

OP - don't repeat such as you have already done. What to get next will depend on what you want to do with it. For example, do you hunt or want to get into different hunting? Where do you live, what are the hunting laws there or wherever you want to hunt? Do you reload? Many questions to ask/answer to help answer your original question.

9mm is far superior to .380 and the 43 isn’t much bigger than the 42. You could pocket it if you needed to. Also, 9mm is cheaper and standardizes your pistol ammo. If I were to do a .380 in the pocket it would be because there was no other way to carry.

Out of strictly those 3, I'd go with the 42. It sounds like you'll get the most actual use for it.

if you need a CCW pistol, the G43. Even though you didn't mention it, I think the S&W shield 9 is a better feeling/better shooting pistol than the G43-I have owned both, and the G43/G43 are the only Glock products that I want no part of. Fiscally speaking, another AR makes more sense if you are into flipping guns for a possible profit, since you already have one.

If you have some extra money to put into guns right now, you might consider going in two directions (to hedge your bets):
1. Stock up on AR-15 type rifles assuming that if they are banned, existing ones will be grandfathered. Then you could sell them for a tidy profit.
2. Stock up on bolt-action milsurps (or M1 Garands). If there is an AWB with no grandfather provision, then guns like these will skyrocket in value.

If there is no AWB, then all is well and good. You haven't lost anything.

I was a good boy tonight, I went in fully intending to buy either the 42 or 43, depending on how pocket carry friendly they were ( my full size jeans pocket can almost completely swallow my CZ 75b), so it surprised me when neither one was any more pocket carry friendly than my CZ

So, needless to say, I bought *nothing* tonight, no new toys, I was a good boy...

.... not making any promises over the rest of the weekend though, hopefully the Nor’easter outside will make me just wanna sleep the day away
