Centerpoint scopes lost features....suggestion for alternatives as good in that price range??

I own quite few of the "traditional" Centerpoint Adventure class scopes sold at Walmart (the 4-16 40 ones) for 70 bucks. Unbeatable features and good quality for the money (mine are all perfect). The last one I bought was probably 4-5 years ago.
I just purchased a bolt action 22 and when I went to Wally World to pick another one I noticed that these scopes lost quite few features. The turrets are not longer exposed, no more locking zero rings and no more screw to adjust the crispness of the knob clicks. No more scope protective cover and no more flip up lens caps either, they have been replaced by the generic scope caps with see through transparent yellow plastic held in place by two elastic strings...
Can you suggest other alternatives in that same price range for the features I mentioned??

Don't know about all the features, but generally NcStar, UTG, and Monstrum Tactical seem to be the cheap scopes loaded with features you may or may not need.

That being said, the scope covers you can get through Butler Creek, that's what I've done for each scope I own except one where I still have the bikini style cover it came with.

Don't know about the screw to adjust crispness, but is this kind of what you're looking for?

I should add for the record, I would spend a bit more for a better quality scope with fewer features. However, it's your money and if I can help you find what you actually want, I'll gladly help out.

I would wholeheartedly recommend something made in America.
 
Those old centerpoints were n excellent value, and as far as i know there arnt any current production scopes that offer the same features in that price range. I should have bought a couple more when they went on clearance.


As has been suggested, best to try find nos for sale on ebay etc.
Or chose the features you really want and look for scopes that have those specific features, at a price your willing to spend.

DX has some interesting scope variants, and you maybe able to find what you want there. Ive never bought a scope from them, just some cheap red dots back before amazon was flooded with them.

I agree...people dissing them and putting them in the same category of Tasco, BSA, etc...they have no idea of what they are talking about...they were inexpensive but not "cheap"...my 5 Centerpoints are still running strong (they are all on centerfire rifles, one on a 338 Win Mag another on a 45-70)..it is really sad that they are gone in their original form....frankly I think that Crosman (Centerpoint is their brand) realized that they could not make it with that quality and features at that price point.

Mine are all in perfect conditions, all features work (and they are nice to have). That is the reason why I was asking specifically about that Centerpoint model....I'm afraid they may have lost not only features but also quality...I saw cheap scopes literally self-destructing or being awful right off the box....the Centerpoint ones definitely they weren't in that category...so I wonder if there is another outlier, quality wise, at a similar price point or I have to significantly step up in budget.....

I heard from more than one source that the 4-16 40 Centerpoint model I'm taking about was easily a 2-300+ dollar scope with another brand.

I've heard good things about Konus as far as cheaper scopes go too, don't know if any of the lower priced ones have the features you're looking for though.

Another one that comes to mind is the BSA Sweet 22. I always hear people raving about them, never have tried one myself though.

Can't blame you for trying to find lighting in a cheap bottle. I can't spend much on gun stuff myself so I'm always trying to find a steal of a deal.
 
You may want to take a look at the Athlons (yes, i know here he goes again). The standard Talos series isnt much over 100 bucks and offers most of what your looking for.
The turrets are capped but still basically target style, and there is no zero stop but the zero can be set.

I only have the Argos series so far, but im thinking ill put either a Talos or Talos btr on my .22 if my buddy wants the 4.5-14x40sf nikon thats on there now.
 
Look at Nikko Sterling scopes. I have 2 of them and they have been the best cheap scopes I have ever bought. The one on my wife's marlin 22 is a much better scope than the $35 price tag I paid, and the one that has bounced around from gun to gun that landed on my Marlin 62 30carbine has shown me what several rifles will do, and what many more won't do. I think the prices have gone up a touch, but I would gladly pay double for another one if I stumbled across the exact configuration I already have.
 
Which Nikko do you have? Ive been curious about them as its one of the few cheaper scopes (or scopes in general) ive never even seen here. Not curious enough to buy one yet obviously, but curious lol.
 
I will look when little eyes are away and the wife isn’t in the bed to be disturbed by me rattling around in the safe. All I know for sure is 3-9x40, fine crosshairs, one is matte silver, the other matte black. I would recognize the scope if I saw it, and would likely buy one or two for anything up to 75ish each. Touching $100 I would be looking for something else, but I have learned the hard way several times that more money doesn’t necessarily mean better.
 
I had a nice conversation with a Crosman service rep (Crosman own the Centerpoint brand) and basically told me that Crosman was no longer able to provide that scope features at the price points required by Walmart...either they had to lower quality or take features out.....so according to this person the new scopes sold at Walmart are as good in quality but with less features and bells and whistles...I still can buy a Centerpoint scope with similar features and magnification (4-16 but with 56mm lens instead of 40) but the price tag is over $200 (Amazon). This to me confirms what I (and other owners) suspected all along, Centerpoint scopes were punching well above their price waistline, it was nice until it lasted....
