Just got my next project

Thanks everyone. Like I said, she gave it to me a little early. My goal is to have it done and shoot it on my birthday in about a week, April 3. But that will depend on my work hours, we're on 7 days a week. But as requested, I will post pictures showing the progress.

Oh neat! They not longer cut the grip to about 90 percent finished! You can do what you want with that chunk of wood. I decided I did not like the ram rod in the brass rings and took off the rings, with the idea of cutting them down to just fill the dove tails and maybe a bit of a bump or maybe smooth with the barrel contour and promptly lost them. I swear there must be parts eating gnomes in my shop! I considered trying to make a Saw handle type grip for one of these.

I have on smooth bore and one rifled. Why anyone would bother to make an unsighted center hammered rifled pistol I am not sure.....and it takes a different sized ball.

I also have one of the pepper boxes with the impossible trigger pull and manual indexing.

Many moons ago I wanted the "elgin" "Naval" version of the ACE which has a knife blade because.....just because.

IMG_0200.JPG IMG_0202.JPG IMG_0211.JPG Ok. I only got to work on it about an hour. I'm starting with the grip. First marked it for fitup then started sanding and shaping. I'm going to try and go for a Kentucky pistol type grip. Stay tuned...

Thanks Striker. Will do.
Hopefully I will get to work on it tomorrow before I have to go to work. But technically, I don't know if I can post it on the mouse gun club. It's a .44.
I may, with permission from moderators, start the THR Single Shot Pistol Club.

I hope yours has a decent barrel. Brother picked up one years back that was not rifled. Can't say it was a smoothbore either. The inside of the barrel looked like it was bored with a drill that had a busted flute.

Good luck on your project.

Ok after working on one of my chicken pens,I got to work on the grip for a little while before work today. Sorry, but forgot to take pictures. Hopefully I'll be working on it more tomorrow and will post pictures of my progress. It's starting to come along nicely.

I remember seeing those Classic Arms pistol kits many moons ago in ads in Guns and Ammo magazine! Eagerly awaiting the unveiling of your finished pistol!

IMG_0251.JPG As promised, it's done...almost. During final assembly I discovered that there was no trigger spring in the kit. I contacted The Possible Shop. Hopefully they will have me one next week. Drop the trigger guard, install the spring and it's done.
I did go ahead and pop a cap, couldn't resist.

That is a very nice looking piece for a kit pistol! I think you did very nice work on the wood. That is a VERY short spur trigger. The top of the grip looks a bit awkward, but it is only one pic.

Long time ago I had a boot pistol somewhat similar to yours in .36 smoothbore marked A.T.CO that cost me $20 at a gun show. The hammer was not shrouded around the nipple and I had to wear a glove when shooting it to avoid having cap parts embedded in my shooting finger. I hope yours is better.

My son has it now but he really has no use for it. If he gets the whim he may send it back to me. It was/is not a very good gun. I used it 20 years ago loaded with Pyrodex RS and a wad to smack dogs around the trash cans. They got the message.

Jim, I need to start going to gun shows with you! Heck! For $20 , I wouldn't mind wearing a glove every time I shoot it!

Ok, here's a better picture. As you can tell, the barrel is still in the white. I was going to leave it that way, I kind of liked the look. But I'm starting to rethink it.
I'm gonna sleep on it. I've already got a bottle of super blue if I commit myself to it.
