On 3/19/2018 there was a petition sent to the Oregon Secretary of States office outlining a proposed ballot measure for the banning of assault style weapons in Oregon. Here is a link to the Secretary of States web page that describes said petition.

http://egov.sos.state.or.us/elec/web_irr_search.record_detail?p_reference=20180043..LSCYYY.

On this page you will also find a link to the wording of the proposed measure. To all members of the High Road that live in Oregon PLEASE read and understand this proposed measure. Also please pass this information along to others. We need to get in front of this and spread the word. If they get enough signatures this measure will be placed on November's Ballot. If that happens then we ALL NEED TO GET OUT AND VOTE!

And zero dem lawmakers have eeven considered it.

In all fairness, no lawmakers of either stripe have, and if history is any indication, none will.

They have this claim "we arent coming for your guns" this has that right in it.

Unlike some locales, pretty much every household that votes in Oregon loses property over this, and if their home doesn't, they are an arm away ( 1 degree of separation) from someone who does.

By my research over the last several years, when the last of these came up and we had signatures being gathered in our store, that no lawmaker in the current era has ever sponsored or voted for a bill that includes confiscation. Taking guns is a no-go in Oregon.

They want to get elected again. This is about as dead as dead gets.

"Pink" floyd passed on even speaking about this one, and that should tell ya something.

As of today, still no sponsor.......... so..........

In any event, further reinforces my belief that clip fed weapons are the way to go. Somehow the AR of failure is evil, but the SKS and Garand of success are still 100 on the money. Ya for that.

I'm still wondering why the Mannlicher clip system died... I think a revival of the en-bloc system would sure be nice for CA folks at this time! Of course... once it got big, they would ban those too. Even a ten round .223 en-bloc AR would be really sweet.

I really hope nothing comes of this petition, but even if it did become something more than a petition, I really don't think it would pass.

It is not a bill. It is a petition and only requires a little over 88,000 signatures to be put on the November Ballot. Doesn’t have anything to do with bills sponsored by the legislature. But yes, at this time no lawmaker has said this petition is a good idea.

I am an Oregonian and left my home state about 6 years ago. I was thinking about moving back to the PDX area on the Washington side, but after this new bill I am reconsidering even staying in the West Coast at all. I'm already very eager to get the heck out of the Puget Sound, which is slowly deteriorating in every way, as far as our personal freedoms, liberties, but also our lifestyles are concerned. There is rampant homelessness, opiate addiction, horribly managed city infrastructure, the worst traffic in the country, etc.

It is pretty heartbreaking to see what Oregon is becoming. Obviously, 30-40% of Oregon now is populated with very liberal Californians, many hailing from Los Angeles and Bay Area and they want to turn Oregon into another California.

The only good that could come of a gun confiscation bill passing in Oregon is that many gun owners will flee to Washington state. Vancouver, WA already double in size over the last 15 or so years and many people who moved there are from Oregon, originally. They may suddenly becoming a powerful voting bloc in this state and can help save Washington from the same demise as the state of Oregon. It could just be that Oregon is a lost cause.

Portland has become gentrified and in some ways could be a very great city. However, the deranged city leadership has let homeless run rampant in the street and many innocent people have been attacked (including myself). I was attacked by a homeless guy in Olympia with a stick not long ago. Now would be a time for Oregonians than ever to be armed. Sadly, the crazies who run Multnomah County have their vision of a communist utopia where the leaders control everything and the people peacefully submit. This element existed in Multnomah county for years, but with the influx of the crazy radical liberals they are now trying to make it a reality.

I've researched this bill and definitely can say this is what gun confiscation looks like in the 21st century. These bills are eerily replicated from very similar Nazi era type gun control legislation. Basically, the government will not outright ban you from having the gun, but rather you must fit a set of criteria and have your guns approved, licensed, etc or you will obliged to turn in your guns to the police with the threat of imprisonment or execution (if necessary).

The one thing that always bewilders me is how so many gun owners feel so comfortable and complacent that the government will "NEVER TAKE MY GUNS". If history has proven anything, almost every nation throughout history has confiscated its citizens guns/weapons at one time or another. People don't realize how young of a country the USA is and how our politicians could with very devious tactics re-write our Constitution and implement all types of measures to disarm its citizens. I will say that complacency and naivety is probably what has led us to where we are today.

I took my wife out for her birthday dinner last evening at El Gaucho in downtown Portland. The dining experience was first rate of course, the drive through downtown was depressing. We didn't see a single street corner or sidewalk that wasn't littered with homeless people and filth. I'm not judging the homeless, I don't know their circumstances. While there were a few obvious lost souls, most of these people looked like they could hold a job if they wished, who knows, maybe they've gone too far down the rat hole to get back out. I'll leave it at this: we drive to where we need to be in downtown Portland, park close, do what we came for and leave. I wish we could make it a destination but we don't feel safe there.

While we are lawfully armed there, avoiding danger in the first place is our prefered approach to staying safe.
