YouTube to Dump Many Gun Videos

Not good with the idea of moving firearms videos to Pornhub. We are already treated as though being interested in firearms is equivalent to pornography and don't need to help support that image.

On the other hand, we do need an alternative. How do others like Vimeo fare?

Then there is distributed computing where massive numbers of individuals are donating amounts of resources on their computers. Scary number of security issues may have put it on the back burner.

Some people talked about Vimeo, but I was told they charge to post each video? Not 100% certain.
Full30 would be nice if the little guys were allowed in, however I would understand if they charged a small membership fee to post videos, because I am willing to bet the cost of the servers for that much stuff would have to be quite high.

Avoid Vimeo, it censors gun videos too.

When you cannot use the same thing the rest of the population uses to share almost everything something is wrong.

When you cannot trade or buy and sell guns on ebay or amazon like people can for most other products, even going through FFLs and abiding by the law, and instead must use a gun only alternative you are filth, hidden from the masses slinking off in corners to live in the shadows like criminals.
When you cannot share videos with guns or gun maintenance or modifications or other actual gun related activities, while using the same platform people use to share everything you are filth, shameful, sent off to slink around in the shadows like the evil you are.

This just sets the tone. I recall linking videos on this forum back in 2006 when youtube was new and doing so was a new thing to many here. That now comes to an end.

When marginalized whether or not you find a way to still enjoy living in your own closed circle by finding another site to allow you to do the same thing, you are still now living in a closed circle, not the open forum of video sharing that most of the population enjoys. Not where other people are exposed to it, where it gains legitimacy and is a normal thing Americans do and stumble across..

When guns are only bought from gun only stores, not hardware or general stores it is something dirty. When guns are only traded on gun only websites not on normal good trading websites you are something dirty. When gun videos and slogans and culture are only on gun video websites, you are something dirty.

When you are marginalized you become easy to legislate against and divide and conquer.

So you won't be able to really work with guns, but movies where guns are fictionally used primarily for bad purposes will be free to share. So the masses exposure to gun videos will be overly dramatized movies, and not some normal guy showing you how to clean a gun that will probably never shoot anything but a target at the range.

of course theres something wrong with all of that, but the question i have is what are people going to do about it?.. run off to full30 where censorship is a million times worse than youtubes but its ok because its your side doing it or are people actually going to push for a fair and unbiased platform to post videos and challenge googles monopoly?

I went to Hickock 45 and Kirsten Joy Weiss's sites this morning and they were still up (and had videos). I did download some gunsmithing videos 'just in case' ...
Hickok45 says he won't be effected. But he has vid's on Full30 though.

Fair warning: the next time I see a thread title in all caps, it will disappear.
I am curious, Larry. Is that a CoC violation or some other forum faux pas, or just a personal position? Doesn't seem like felony offense or anything. We can discuss privately if you want to "disappear" this post, but the question is sincere.

Not sure that's true. It's being developed and every day it gets better. Just try it.

An answer to post #83
I cannot speak for a Mod, but FYI traditionally in just about any mssg boards all caps is the typing equivalent to yelling:)

As long as they keep stuff like Gunmaking Craftsmanship-Holland & Holland I won't mind. They do need to get rid of stuff like that "Kool-Aid Kidoo" showing how to bump fire AKM using belt buckle. We do not need stuff like that on there.

Yeah we need to censor that right now.. because we are about freedom.. right? Your're part of the problem.

Your opinion.

Hmm. Would this censorship include instructions on how to make "smart" guns dumb?

Ha! I forget where now, but my generic instructions on how to circumvent the electronics on smart guns was deleted from one site or thread a while back.

It's about traffic. YouTube has 30 million viewers a day, and people may find progun content while going down some rabit hole and end up with a different opinion than they had when they started. Alphabet wants to help people be ignorant to firearms and the firearm conversation.

Full30.com does not have the traffic or the bandwith to compete.

Pornhub has 80 million viewers daily. They have the bandwidth and the traffic to more than compete, the major issue with them is that the deal with essentially one type of content.

The best solution, I think, would it be PornHub deciding they were going to be a direct competitor to YouTube, changing their name, and broadening their scope of content. They don't really have an incentive to do this however.

Not to be defeatist on subject, but at the moment there is not exist a equivalent platform. I am truly disappointed with YouTube's anti-liberty stance. I, as well as all of you I'm sure, learned a great deal from the content produced by other enthusiasts, and has been a cool way of connecting with others who share our passions. Watching them turn something that brought us together into something that no longer welcomes us is downright tragic.

I think the only way to put an end to this, would be to rally as many of the popular content creators together as possible (anyone with a YouTube rep maybe?) And tell them they will not produce new content until all content creators are treated fairly.

Dark times guys. It's easy to get discouraged but don't give up the fight. I've started writing and calling my reps several times a week at least to voice support of our rights. If nothing else, I would encourage you all to do the same, if you aren't already.

I suspect that the market might solve this problem.

A few years ago, KSL.com, the most popular on-line classified ad site in Utah, announced that they weren't going to carry postings for p2p firearms sales any more. There was plenty of gnashing of teeth from the shooting community about this decision.

About this same time, a new service called Utah Gun Exchange (utahgunexchange.com) opened. UGE has become ten times the firearms marketplace that KSL ever was. UGE has hosted a gun show, organized rallies supporting second amendment rights, and become a digital focal point for the shooting community here in this state.

With any luck, as a community we'll be able to look back at Alphabet's announcement in a few years and wonder why we put up with the garbage they put us through for so long.

There is a thread in full30's forum that says they are planning to open up video uploads in the near future. Before it was by invitation only. I hope this means they will be getting the capital investment necessary to afford the bandwidth.

As an aside, it would probably be in the financial interests of the industry to also invest in such a platform, perhaps as a marketing or advertising cost.

I think we should ban Holland & Holland rifles & shotguns, since then blueblood Fudd gun owners would lose whatever claims they have to speak for those of us that actually value this public civil liberty.
