2019 will mark a new chapter as Weatherby will be relocating to the beautiful mountain town of Sheridan, Wyoming. Not only does it offer the perfect combination of rural living and political friendliness, it will be home to Weatherby’s new custom manufacturing facility and company headquarters.

It's really sad to see a company with so much history in Paso Robles to have to move because of political pressure. I know there are other issues like taxes, but I believe politics and the public's general dislike of guns, by Californians, are probably the biggest factors. Furthermore, I grew up in CA and watched the state and local governments literally run businesses out.

Good for them, good for the State of Wyoming! A Win/Win situation as I see it.

Weatherby consideration for future purchases just went way way up IMO:thumbup:

It's very good to see a gun manufacturer leave a communist state, I may even buy one.

Love mine! Yes, I know it is a Vanguard and it's made in Japan.....but still a great product from a great company. Their customer service is top notch too!

I was listening to Tom Gresham's Gun Talk program last night.

He talked to the CEO. He said they are giving all their employees that option, but not everyone will be able to make the move.

I feel it's a great move for Weatherby and it's probably more of a business decision rather than trying to make a statement. Spent a good portion of my life watching good companies get run out of NY state by overtaxing, over-regulation, and all the other similar factors that California is subjecting their business community to, it only seems to be a natural result of all that for companies to seek a more business friendly environment in which to operate. Beside; I've already heard that some folks are now waiting for new Weatherby's to be stamped "Sheridan Wyoming" instead of "Paso Robles CA." before they purchase one.

Sorry I missed that show. I would be curious to know if the CEO stated that the taxes in CA had anything to do with the move. I’ve had the pleasure of working with a few outdoor companies from CA. The ones that I know have moved because of the unbelievable corporate tax rate. Combine that with the political climate and I can see where the move would be justifiable. Just my .02.

Is Weatherby about to release some ilk of the ever more popular autoloaders? I hate to ask but yet another AR-15 platform? I truly hope not.

If they do it will be after product & market viability research. Don't like it? Simple....don't buy it

Let's not get too excited. The Weatherby Vanguard line is made in Japan. The Weatherby shotguns are made in Turkey.

I'll tell you right now, I don't care where the Vanguard is made, that's one hell of a gun. Besides, the Howa barrel and receiver are made in Japan, but I believe the assembly as well as stock mfg. is done by Weatherby.

I looked it up. Avg. household income $31,420 family $40,106 and no labor unions in middle of nowhere with low corporate taxes. Sounds like heavenly place for them. Whoever will not move from CA can be replaced at reasonable cost and they will even be able to afford to buy them Vanguards and shotguns.

DoubleMag, my intent wasn't to disparage either Weatherby or the AR-15, rather to suggest that the 2 would not make an ideal marriage. Weatherby should stay with its tradition of making some of the world's best sporting rifles. To tell you the truth, I would never look to Weatherby for a shotgun.

They could make the AR-15 just like Galazan at CSMC makes A.H. Fox, visually enhanced SKB for Savage (called A Grade Fox), O/U along with that 12lb double barrel pump abomination that looks like a Kel-Tec. Berratta also has fine gun department making SO shotguns, double rifles,.....but also makes weapons of war for the military. I would not get into the AR-15 market because it has no future. I predict the love for the modern sporter will wither when magazine capacity will become mandated five to ten cartridges cartridges.

Thank you for clarification of your post although not necessary. I 'read into' it too much perhaps?

Come to think of it, ''Weatherby MarkAR'' would look rather odd o_Oon the side of an AR receiver wouldn't it

But if they did, that's their perogative I guess in a saturated market

When Weatherby gets away from the extremely high corporate and property taxes that they are now subject to, It will free up a good chunk of money that would enable them to invest a portion of into some market research. Who knows?.......... Perhaps they could introduce some new products based upon the results of that market research with another portion of that money going to start-up costs for the new stuff. This move looks like a real "win -win" situation for Weatherby and I wish them the best.
