1100 value

I've seen several for $200-300 over the last couple of years in local stores. Since Bud's has them for $460 new, it was easy to talk a local down to $250 last month...

Check "Collector Firearms Simpson Limited" in Galesburg. He has a dozen for around three to three and a half, most with Cutts. Most look pretty solid. I have bought several in the past four years or so, mostly field grade, for under three and a half. For six, I'd want something really nice. All talking used of course.

I don't see why anyone would buy an 1100 at all unless they REALLY like them, or it was dirt cheap. Too many other options for more reliable autos with more capability. I dumped my 1100 and got a Mossberg 930 and never looked back. To each his own, I guess.

Wow, I've shot 1100's in skeet and other disciplines since the 1970's and have never experienced any reliability problems at all except for very rare occasions trying to feed bad/fat reloads.... for thousands of rounds, they just keep running and running, never a hickup. To each his own, I'd trust an 1100 with my life anytime. The one single exception to its flawless reliability I discovered is that mine was finicky in very cold weather.... I wouldn't suggest buying one for a duck gun.

BTW, I also own a 930, another fantastic firearm... but that does not take away from the value of an 1100. For the price on the used market they are a great value that will never disappoint. IMO

They were hot property back in the early 80's. Every guy I knew had to have one. One season of hunting was about all it took for them to go from hot to not. I bought one and never fired it. Ended up trading it to a buddy for his BLR

Which shotgun are you referring to?

I bought it's successor the 11-87 for 600-700.

A coworker said an 1100 he got was junk and took 100s of rounds to cycle properly.

I have a feeling he didn't clean the wax, relubricate it and wait for it to break in like most manufacturers suggest. I'm lazy did the same thing and may have gotten lucky.

I like the Mossberg 930 I have too. I'd look at either as a good choice unless you really want to pick up something used and abused for half the price.
