What did you carry to church today?

We just had a presentation to community church leaders by the local police on how to set up safety committees and procedures. My wife and I will both be members.

i was part of a simlar meeting put on by the county sherriff.

But the reality is, in church we sit with our backs to the front doors, and someone coming in through those doors armed with a semi-auto anything or two could kill a lot of people before either my wife or I (..) could respond. .

the point is, the number of people wounded would stay in the single digits instead of a masacre ... its about how many people we could save by meeting an attacker with equal/superior force.
as to sitting with your back to the door... a coupple of you who carry should always stay back and watch the entrance and rear of the sanctuary from diffent angles. you realise it is a weak spot; that's good; deal with it.

For one thing during services all doors are locked and you have an observer in the foyer. Lots more stuff. Six out of ten events are over before help arrives was the stat we were given.

On the Sundays I’m on stage I opt for LCP in pocket, up in the sound both or just part of the congregation it’s the G23.

When I’m on the floor I sit along the back wall with clear line of sight to the entrances.

we have no organized security even though we’ll have over 600 people on a typical Sunday and pastor has a don’t ask don’t tell CC policy.

My state doesn't allow the carrying of firearms into places of worship unless we are part of the security team. Haven't joined yet but been asked a few times by the head of security. I'll probably carry my RAMI or something larger in the colder months when a coat is more likely.

Well, glad you asked! I had this brand new Barranti holster, and thes new stag grips from Patrick Grashorn:

Note I did not wear those jeans to church. Wore trousers and a sport coat for my Sunday Best! And yes, I carried my Scofield Reference Bible, too.

This holster just came the Friday before and the grips maybe a week before.

Up until now, its been this rig:

Incidentally, I recently won the title of the Best Pistol Shot at my church, beating out some fifty or sixty men!

A word about church safety: We do lock our doors once church service has begun. However, we have security cameras so all areas of our church campus are viewed in the security office, with motion activated cameras located around. Further about six armed guards, church members, are licensed and patrol the parking lot and entrances. Should anyone arrive late and want entry, there is provision for that. We have a staff of about eighteen men trained and licensed so they can alternate days of service.

I just slip a little NAA .22 mag in my jacket pocket. That's about my maximum when stuffed into a hot suit pressed up to a bunch of bodies.

To specifically answer the OP I carried the same gun in church that I carry any other day. Glock 19 and 2 reloads.

The church I attend seats around 4000. On any given Sunday I would guess that 75-100 congregants and probably 20 staff members are armed.

I'm pretty sure the entire Pastoral staff knows I carry in church and I know the senior Pastor does because he asked me for advice when he was looking for a carry gun.

Our church has right around 40 people on the security team. The majority are active/retired military or active/retired police and one or two licensed security officers.

All of the security has to go through the same background check a licensed security guard has to go through.

In terms of placement we lock all exterior doors except the main entrance doors 15 minutes after service starts. That alone cuts the threat potential to almost nil (IMO). We have an exterior roving guard, an interior roving guard, a uniformed guard in the sanctuary and a plainclothes guard in the sanctuary. We also have 2 uniformed guards in the main lobby and the children's lobby. The on duty team is on duty through the entire service. With the exception of the sanctuary guys none of us sit in the Sanctuary.

The security team gets quarterly firearms training and we do walk throughs of scenarios in the building periodically.
