I would like to get my triggers set close to the same pull weight. What meter should I purchase?

I ordered this one and I don't recommend it. It is too hard to get consistent readings. As a classic case of, "Buy cheap, buy twice;: I will probably get the one linked to above soon.

I don't remember who made mine, but it's an inexpensive one like the lower cost Wheeler Hasaf linked to. flphotog is correct: you need to take multiple readings and average. It helps to have the gun in a vice and position the gauge consistently. I probably don't get precise readings, but they are close and consistent enough for my purpose. I don't tinker with triggers enough to invest in a more expensive gauge.

I use Nalgene bottles and a modified coat hanger. Adjust the water in the bottle and weigh it on a known accurate shipping scale, then use it to test the trigger pull. I'm mostly trying for as close to 2 pounds as I can get without going under 2, so I use one bottle weighing 32 oz., another at 34 oz., and adjust the trigger(s) so that I can lift the one without firing, but the other fires it every time.

Assuming the triggers are adjustable it shouldn't be too hard to just dry fire them and adjust accordingly until they are close enough that the feel the same.

I bought a cheap one similar to the Wheeler a while ago and it works OK as long as you firmly secure the gun, use the exact same positioning on the trigger each time, and use a consistent pulling motion.

This is smart!

Not a bad idea if the stocks are all similar. The same trigger weight will feel very different on stocks with different shapes, e.g. traditional hunting style with semi pistol grip, versus target style grip which is more vertical, versus straight grip like older Winchester low walls or early Springfield 1903s.

I use several coils of lead came or solder. One of 2#, 2 of 1# each, 2 of 1/2# each, and one of 1/4#, A String tied to a 1# weight, with the others easily slid onto the string as needed to get within 1/4# (4 ounces) of my goal weight.

My first trigger pull gauge was some free weights tied around some 550 cord. With a few 10, 5, and 2.5 weights I could get very rough ideas on trigger weights. One year I got a few Bass Pro gift cards. I was able get a REAL trigger pull gauge (non digital), reloading gear, and some Magpul enhanced followers.

Thanks for all the info. I'm not looking for anything fancy just want to set the target rifles to about the same pull weight and see where the hunting rifles, hand guns and shotguns are at, thanks

Anyone ever use a digital fishing scale? Or a science class lab spring scale?

I see them on Amazon for around $7 so I figured I might be worth a shot

Yeppers, I do. I just tie a loop of string that doesn't stretch around the trigger, attach the scale to the other end of the loop, have the wife hold the gun down, and watch the scale as I pull it until the trigger releases.
No, it's not precise. But it's close enough for my purposes. I like 3lb triggers for my hunting rifles, but believe crispness and lack of over-travel for a trigger are probably just as important as having it set at an exact weight.:)

I did get the Lymans meter and I tested my trigger pull weight on my CZ 45210 times to get a good average and it came up low of 1.1 lbs and high of 1.71 the average was 1.483. I do get a little, what would I call it??, catch at 1/4 to 1/2 pull stroke so I guess I will try to polish it. My 6.5 CM average was 2.745 so I might try and bring down the CM and bring up the 452 to try and match them closer for my two target rifles.

I use a handheld luggage scale because I had it. I'm sure it's not the most accurate but all I'm interested in is relative change. The numbers always seem reasonable, I do a few pulls to get an average.
