consolidation? One platform to rule them all...?

This may be more of a philosophical question...

I have a bunch of guns, mostly cz75 variant.

What's bugging me is that this means that I have a lot of different magazines. And I have to make choices about which platforms I modify, accessorize, etc.

And I'm hitting the 'too many options is as bad as too few' stage; I want to simplify my shooting so I can improve it.

So, sorry for the long intro, I'm thinking about selling everything and consolidating and I wanted to get y'all's take or advice on this.

WHAT I WANT:
a carry gun
a home/sd gun
a target/ipsc gun

WHAT I HAVE:

9mm
CZ75 S/A
CZ PO1
CZ P09
CZ P10c
Tanfoglio Witness match
SW Shield

45
Tanfoglio Witness match
PPQ-45

Honestly I'm thinking of going the Glock 19/34/43 route, and perhaps ditching .45 altogether.

Can I get your thoughts? I'm thinking that I could probably get 3K in trades or sales, buy the new stuff, and spend the 'profit' on trigger mods, etc...

OR is there a better way to do this? Keep in mind, the big appeal of going Glock is that (with a chopped G34) I could have ONE big box of G19 mags, instead of EIGHT different kinds...

Thoughts?

Well that’s a hard one. I’m not very familiar with cz’s but maybe you could get a couple of the same model in different sizes that share the same mags, or get 2 of the same, one for carry and one for hd, or just get a Glock 17 for hd, 19 to carry, and a 17L or 34 for competition.

If the witness 9 works for you keep it, get a few more mags, and lots more ammo with the profit from what you sell.

I'm not one who feels the need to have 10 magazines for every gun I own. I don't shoot enough to wear them out, and I don't go places where I think I might need more than a spare. I usually only keep 2 or 3 magazines max.

I think consolidating caliber makes more sense for my needs. I've been trying to stick with 9mm for my recreational, HD, and CC needs while peppering in .380 and .22 mag for deep concealment and .357 as more of a back-up, back-up ubiquitous revolver.

If I were going to go with a pistol platform where I fudged in as much do-it-all into my pistol, I think I would go with the SIG p320/365. Granted, I really like the 320, and I know it's not for everyone, but having a full size gun, a compact slide, a compact frame, and a 365 would result in a pistol set up that could switch from FS for HD to FS slide on a compact frame for concealment to a compact slide on a compact frame for concealed carry with good fire power all the way to a 365 for deep concealment.

That set up would have you buying two "guns" and a compact exchange kit. However, for maybe 200 more you could just buy the compact gun too. It might make more economic sense to buy a full size gun, a compact gun, and a subcompact frame where you just slip the compact slide on the SC frame.

Anyway, I wouldn't over think it. You seem well covered as it is with your CZs.

I wouldn't go from what you have, to Glock. Just my opinion.

If anything, maybe move a couple of the non-75 variants and get a Rami for carry (instead of the Shield). Consistency of trigger, etc.

I wouldn't give up .45 acp either, no telling what will happen with ammo down the road.

"Beware of the man with one gun" is an old saying and I think there is some truth to it.

I decided to buy a striker fired pistol, keep it bone stock, and not let myself shoot anything else. I now shoot my M&P 2.0 Compact exclusively (other than mandatory work related shooting)

From you collection, I'd go with the P10c. I have the P01 and know it is an amazing gun, but the Glockish P10c just seems like it fits the bill better.

I did keep though my Taurus 738 and Ruger LC9s for deep concealment. I’m glad I consolidated. No regrets. Like having many mags for each.

I don't worry to much about mags I do like Most of my pistols to have same control I have 4 gen 4 Glocks 20, 17, 26 and a 42 all with the mag release swapped to lefty but I do have other pistols

If I had to have only one platform, it would be the 1911.

Yep that would pretty much be me too. A Colt Government in .45 or .38 Super/9mm. with a .22LR conversion assembly.

You are a de facto CZ fan it seems.

Which one do you like for home defense, carry and match? Select the three, have sufficient mags for them, and you're done.

Refine your techniques with each, and practice to improve accuracy, then - very slowly - your speed.

I'm "sort of" there now. With the exception of my CCW shield 9 and some safe queen collectibles, I'm all Glock and 1911. The Glocks still use different mags though depending on model (for the 9mms) and there is 1 Glock each in 40 and 45 ("woods guns"). That's as simplified as I can get.

While there is appeal to being able to grab any magazine and have it fit, I enjoy differing guns in different calibers. Consolidating to only 9mm actually appeals more to me than one platform....and I won't do even that. Do what you wish....but I like your current selection more that your proposal.

If you wanted to stay with the CZ, you could keep the P01 and get an SP-01. The P01 is that perfect Glock 19 size that allows it to do well as both concealed carry and home defense. Take it out of the holster and maybe put a white light on it when you put it on the bedstand or whatever. The SP-01 can get a CGW trigger and whatnot, and turn into a decent competition gun that also has the ability to do well in home defense. Once you have the SP-01, I would put the white light on it and leave it in the bedstand when not running competition. You could of course stick with the traditional CZ line, but I prefer to have a light rail so I like the P01/SP01.

Of course, I am a Glock guy though. Sticking with one family or brand of pistols, I don't see anything else on the market that gives you the options Glock does. Glocks are usually pretty economical to purchase initially and probably easier to work on and modify than any other model of pistol. If you can shoot them, the Glock has a lot to offer. You could have a sub-compact, compact, service, and competition size handguns and a carbine all in the same caliber running off the same mags. I would consider again doing it all with a G19MOS and a G34MOS.

A noble effort. Since my wife doesn't like "guns that shoot back," all my serious guns are now S&W revolvers. If going with a semiauto pistol, as much as I dislike Glocks, I might have to go that way in 9mm with a pistol caliber carbine using the same mags.

Zerodefect

Being that 1911's start at $2000 a piece, I chose Glock.

A standard Rock Island Arsenal M1911A1 will run you a little over $400; a slightly upgraded version with better sights, trigger, and a beavertail grip safety, will set you back another $50.

You could get a Ruger SR1911 for $718 or a Colt Government (Model 01991), for $749.

I would say your "starting" price for 1911s is a little over inflated.

We'll I'm going to be no help at all with the consolidating. Your list makes me want a CZ-75 and a PO-9. Do you prefer one over the other or should I just one of each? I'm getting a PO-9 either way . My advice is keep them all . Most folks regret selling guns. Dont sell the kids.
