New Pedersoli Rifle

If this gun shoots like the Blue Ridge rifle made by Pedersoli and sold by Cabelas I used to have it will be a shooter. I have wanted one of these for many years. Cabelas used to sell them. There was one in the bargain cave in the kansas store way before the internet I tried to buy but Cabelas at least at that time would not ship items from the bargain cave. This may even be a gun that came from Cabelas. I just hope the bore is in good condition.

The same gun from Dixie shows a sale price of $650

Hey Mate,
That's not the "same gun". ;) Your auction description shows a 42" barrel, and the Dixie GW link that you used, shows a 35½ inch barrel. That's the Pennsylvania (Dixie) rifle in percussion, not the Kentucky...., check the pattern in the patch box. Current OTC price for your rifle is $1050 from DGW. :thumbup:https://www.dixiegunworks.com/index...me/PF1070+Dixie+Pennsylvania+Percussion+Rifle

Just in case you weren't sufficiently happy on your purchase price...:D

God forbid the bore is bad..., that would be a shame, but if it is roached beyond use, the price you got makes it a good candidate for conversion over to a "smooth rifle", so don't fret.

Hey Dave. That barrel length was added after the auction??? If I had of known it was a 42" barrel I wouldn't have bid on it. So thats strange. But I wouldn't have a smooth bore. I would just buy a new barrel and fit it myself if the rifling is bad. But I will be surprised if the bore is bad. I have bought several guns from pawn shops that the barrel didn't look all that great but everyone cleaned up just fine. Plus I got them at really reduced prices.

I even sent a Hawken barrel back to T/C because it had a slight bend near the muzzle that they straightened out but for some reason they didn't clean it after test firing and it looked like staligtites and staligmites when I got it back but cleaned right up.

I will know in a week or so. The payment was sent a couple of days ago and they should have that by friday or monday. I will of course post a few pictures and report when it arrives.

Dave you nailed it on which gun it is. I have looked at the Dixie listing several times now and am looking forward to getting the gun. I am surprised it sold as cheap as it did knowing what I know now.

I had a Traditions Pennsylvania rifle in 36 caliber I wish I hadn’t sold. It was long to carry but it sure shot good. I liked to shoot 38 caliber wadcutter bullets out of it. They worked just like miniature Minnie Balls.

LD they recieved my payment last friday the 27th of April. they hold it (USPS money order) for the days and said it will ship wednesday the 2nd and be here Friday. When I get it I will take a few pics and post them. Thanks for your help sorting out what I bought. I am a happy camper.

OK I got the gun on Friday as promised. The bore was dry and looked dark. But a few minutes with a wet patch and it cleaned right up. I took the lock off expecting it to be somewhat fouled and and it has only a small amount of dirt that wiped right off. I does have a small chipped area right by one of the ferrel pins. But not that big of a deal. Overall I am happy with the gun except for one thing. ITS TOO DANG LONG!

Just kidding but it is a long sucker. I can't wait to shoot it. Maybe by next weekend I can make it to my buds land and do a little target practice.

Here are some pictures. And the bore light is some small fishing bobber lights I bought off Ebay. Someone said they wouldn't work but they seem to work very well.

I said it was long. I didn't say it was heavy. Matter of fact its not bad at all in that respect. And I was just looking and measuring and thinking it would be easy to chop it to a 28-30 inch barrel. I really like the Pedersoli Scout Carbine with a 28" barrel and they come in 45 caliber. My favorite. I am thinking real hard about this right now. I mean heck, its not a rare antique or collector gun. So why not? And a new Scout Carbine from Dixie is $750 shipped. I would be into mine for $355 and mine would have a cool patch box on it.

Rat, that's a beautiful rifle! A bit long, and the thought of a scout length with the patch box is cool...cut it a couple of inches longer than the scout and make it truly custom!
As far as the fish bobber bore light--it actually worked ok, and it gave me the idea for a new sci fi sequel: "Matrix 1840--CAP AND BALL"

Brad I look forward to your movie. If they can remake Lost In Space then anything is possible.

I bought the fishing bobber lights off Ebay and they work better than I expected. Someone on another forum said they wouldn't work but I am happy with them. I bought a total of 4 and they were just over $5 shipped.

I will shoot the gun before I make any decisions to cut it down. Heck may just relist it and sell it. I have 4 more BP rifles now including one I have had for 5 years and still haven't shot yet. I went shooting yesterday and should have shot it then. But I didn't.

I really like the Plains style rifles better than the eastern style Kentucky rifles. I like how sturdy and stoutly built the Hawkens and modern knock offs are.

PLEASE DON'T DO THAT....
You won't have a "custom" rifle, you'll have a home-job modified rifle, that was once resellable to not only a hunter or target shooter, but also to living history people, and at 2x the original cost at least. With longrifles being expensive these days, it would make more sense to at least double the price of what you paid, then acquiring a used Traditions http://www.thegunworks.com/custprodgun.cfm?ProductID=4311&do=detail&Cat2Option=yes or if you need a flinter, getting a Traditions in flint with a short barrel https://www.cabelas.com/product/TRADITIONS-DEER-HUNTER-CAL-BP-RIFLE/1843384.uts?slotId=7, and pocketing the difference. In effect, you'd get a "free gun" if you priced your current Pedersoli at 2x the short rifle that meets your needs

I have to agree with Loyalist Dave. A cut off home done job will most likely turn out looking like a canoe paddle. I knew a kid a number of years ago that shot a Dixie Cub till he outgrew it. It was not a bad looking rifle... for a production gun.

Well no. I am actually pretty skilled in metal and wood work. But if I do anything it would be just sell the rifle. I have 4 more rifles now I can shoot. I have no desire to own a flinter. I have shot them but they don't push my buttons.

LD thanks for the links. I have much better guns than the Traditions Deerhunter rifles. The only other rifle I might consider if I sell the Pedersoli would be a T/C Renegade. I have owned and traded in to three of those in the past and they were excellent rifles. They were heavy. If I got one I would get the 54 just to lose a little weight in the barrel.

Thanks for your replies.
