How often do you all have to trim 357 mag cases?
For my light plinker loads? Once, never again.

For my full power loads? Sooner or later they will need it once more.

I trim all revolver brass in the beginning, unless it was bought all same headstamp. I also chamfer and deburr it, including same stamp bought brass.

I use nothing but range brass for .357 Mag, and the lengths are all over the place because of all the different headstamps. Making them uniform really makes for good consistent crimps and start pressures. Same thing for .38 Spl range brass.

1000 a year that is less than 3 a day for a year.
Now, do you think that you would require a Hornady Lock N Load Case Prep Center at $400.00?

NO
Or do you think a Hornady Cam-Lock Case Trimmer Kit would do at $72.00?

Now, I am a Hornady freak but do you need a Hornady? He!! NO.
Go ahead and start hand cranking your butt away. With a smile on your face and a lump in your wallet. Besides Momma need new shoes. That is what I'm told anyway.

Very useful thoughts. Thank you.

Over the last week I've been tumbling brass for several hours a day. I have around 2000 once shot 357 mag cases and probably 3000 or so 38 specials.

Additionally I have a few hundred 45 Colt, 454, and 460 mag cases sitting around.

I'm thinking I'll trim them all at least once.

I had no intention of buying an expensive prep station. Hand cutter only. Point taken though.

As long as it's show and tell.....here's my old 40+ year Forster with its power and 3-way cutter......and the pulley-driven shaft raising foot pedals mod.....Dewalt powered....and of course the really sophisticated auto-eject.;)

I love that mod. Great stuff.

Forster stand alone or one for power drill press or drill, Lyman either manual or with drill attachment, all are great trimmers

I buy all my pistol brass new from Starline and haven't had to trim any, ever. Thrown a few away when it gets too short. Rifle brass is the only brass I ever have to trim.

Since we're playing S&T, and it's too rainy to go shooting, I'll play too: Showing a vintage Grigsby case trimmer I bought when I was 14. (Why is it some of my stuff I bought new is now considered vintage?) Along with the Gracey power trimmer I use only when I have a big batch of cases used in competition or PD shooting .308, .220S etc. The two Wilson trimmers are what I use most, along with the great little trimmer made by Speedy Gonzalez. Wish I had bought several of these when he was making them because they attach quickly to loading bench, take little room and use Wilson shell holders...

For pistol I use mixed range brass so I trim them all once and then never again. I use the Lee trimmers. Economical and work just fine. I chuck the shell holder in my cordless drill and get after it.

I believe loading 460 magnum is more like loading a rifle cartridge than a pistol cartridge. Maybe I'm wrong. Since a 1000 count batch of new 460 mag brass from Starline runs $528, I think I'll be loading it as many times as I can.

I have not loaded but a few 460 rounds yet, but I think you are right. Magnum rifle pressures, if you choose to load that hot.

I invested in an LE Wilson Case Trimmer with the Micrometer and the drill attachment that allows you to chuck a drill to the tool and it makes trimming much faster.
I would HIGHLY recommend the LE Wilson Case Trimmer. It is a very high quality precision tool that trims cases very accurately. LE Wilson gear is made for the high precision crowd, so tolerances are held to very high standards, unlike most of the competition.

Ultimately, you pay for what you get...
