Last week my friend in California ( who makes more money in a year than I made in twenty ) gave me (YES!) a 94 Winchester he said was made in 1980. It is an angel eject model and it has no safety other than the rebounding hammer. The gun is unfired and it is a beauty. It even had the walnut sticker on the stock...intact !

It seems to me I have the best of all worlds in a 94....angle eject with no stupid add on safeties. Just a half cock, just like JMB intended.

I also got 120 rounds of 160 grain Lever Revolution ammo. Or whatever they call that stuff.

Hard to beat that deal...

"Angel eject?" It ejects angels? Does God approve? Are angels reloadable, even?

Yea... I'm a wiseacre. :neener:

Nice friend! 94AE's are good guns; you need to scope it!
I have dozens of rifles, a bunch of pistols and five shotguns. I have exactly two firearms with scope sights. I am the original old fashioned geezer...as in... I don't like these new fangled contraptions called scopes. To me, a scope on top of a 94 is like John Wayne in a dress....doesn't look right and wasn't meant to be.

Now, I will admit I am not a hunter. If I were....I would gladly embrace "scopes"

But I'm not..........

So is it going into safe keeping, or use?
Haven't decided yet, but I did put twenty rounds through the gun. It appears to hit exactly where I aim. And it is stiff and a bit sticky in spots, exactly what you would expect from a 38 year old gun that has never been fired. I suppose I will use it, since I have already shot it and can no longer claim brand new status. What good is a gun you never use??????

This 94 was coded as the XTR model featuring select walnut and checkering. It's a keeper!

Back in 1995, my Dad (1922-2004) gave me a model 94 Legacy in 30-30. I mounted a 2-7X Leupold scope and proceeded to topple deer with this amazing rifle. It has killed 24 deer for me while hunting in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and South Dakota. 30-30 is a keeper!

I have an identical one. Got it used, missing the front hood, which I replaced. I have a Williams Sourdough reciever sight on it. It’s mostly a range toy, but very accurate. I mostly shoot cast bullet loads equaling factory loads.
It’s too pretty to take hunting. For that, I’ve got a Marlin/Glennfield M30 half-magazine with a Leupold M8 4x scope, and my older brothers M94, also with a Williams reciever sight.
But, it would take 4-figures to get it away from me. And I paid less than half that 4yrs ago.
And by the way, it’s LeverEvolution, not “revolution”... but I do have and use both powder and bullets.
I’m fond of levers, have I think it’s a dozen now... or is it 13!?

OK, got it.
The mental imagery......<John Wayne voice> Hey, Pilgrim, ya never seen a man in taffeta and silk?</John Wayne voice> is a bit off.

Wow.......... It's beautiful. As long as you're gonna shoot it some more have you considered an aperture, (peep) sight in lieu of a scope? They work well on lever guns because some people prefer the "old fashioned" look on a traditional looking lever gun. Even "old fashioned geezers" like them due to the fact that they work better than the factory iron sights for aging geezer eyes. Although this "geezer" runs a 1-4x Leupold on a Marlin .30-30, ( it's a hunting gun), lol.

That is a beautiful rifle there, I've got two XTR's but they are in .22LR and .22WMR which I bought brand new, I believe right around '79-80. Both have had just a couple boxes of ammo thru them. And no I wouldn't consider selling either of them.

Nope, even though the "angle-eject" design was intended to better accommodate scopes on a Model 94 action, imo, the only "proper" sights for classic Winchester Model 94 or Marlin Model 336 carbines are ones made from "iron". Accordingly, my angle-eject Model 94, chambered in 30-30, wears a Williams "Fool Proof" receiver sight. I highly recommend same for anyone looking for a fast-handling carbine, while hunting in heavy brush, where short range shots requiring quick sight/target acquisition are prerequisites for putting venison on the table.
