I have been carrying a HK P30Sk for about a year and a half now. I love the gun and shoot it well, but now that my interests have swung in the direction of 10mm, the Glock 29 fascinates me. It holds the same round count as the P30SK, is chambered in a much more powerful round, and is only slightly larger.

The purpose would be CC.

Please share your impressions and stories, both good and bad, and what bullet weight your gun preferred. Did it beat you up? Do you shoot full house loads or watered down stuff? How was the longevity?

Thanks

I carried mine in a crossbreed holster, even though the holster was rated for the glock 26 the model 29 fit in perfectly despite being a little bigger, the gun is like any other Glock in the sense that its reliable, tough as nails, and will keep running no matter what gets in its way. SInce the 29 is built a little bigger I was able to get a much better grip on it than the smaller 26, no its not a full size grip but my pinky is not off the grip size as well, I shot both hot and weak ammo in it and even some medium power 180 grain at 1050 fps, the gun will let you know its there but It wont hurt you at all, I felt less recoil with 10mm out of there than .357 in my security 6 ruger. It was a great hiking gun if one prefers the autos over the real, I mean wheel guns, only reason I got rid of mine was cost of ammo and I didnt want to buy a conversion barrel for .40, it was my only 10mm so it made sense to just choose a caliber I already reloaded for or ammo was cheap for like 9mm. Its also not too bulky to the point where it was uncomfortable just make sure you have a good belt but that advice goes for any gun not just the 29.

I've handled a Gen 3 and thought it felt ok in the hand. My pinky dangles on my P30SK and XDs 45, and it doesn't bother me.

That's very helpful info.

Yep, got plenty of those too, I just like variety. I typically carry a S&W 686+ when hiking.

I already have two other 10mm guns, and just need to set up my dies.

Thanks for the response.

I currently own a Glock 20 and 29, a Sig P220 10mm and previously owned a S&W 1006. For CC in 10mm the 29 is the best option I can think of. Being the smallest of the four I mentioned, it has the most felt recoil but is very manageable and hasn't been a issue. I use mine primarily as a woods gun when we go on vacation. It does not like 220 grain hardcast rounds from either Underwood or Buffalo Bore (neither does the 20) but does well with 200 grain rounds. It's been reliable with any ammunition other than those 200 grain rounds.

I like the versatility it offers, as you can conceal it easily with the 10 round magazine or have additional rounds available with a 15 round magazine. I put Pierce grip extentions on the 10 round magazines to keep my pinky from hanging off. It helps with the recoil and is more comfortable to shoot. Their link is below. The only downside for some is the Glock grip and grip angle. That may or may not be an issue for you. The grip is not too large for me, but if it was any larger it would be. Someone with smaller hands may have a problem with the grip size. While the size of the grip isn't an issue for me, it doesn't point naturally for me and I'm not comfortable with it the way I am my M&P 2.0's or CZ's. It's causing me to be not as accurate with the 29 as I'd like, something I hope to fix with additional range time. That's a personal thing, as I know people who love the Glock grip.

I have carried by Gen 3 29 for a dozen years or so. It is easy to carry concealed, comforting in the woods inhabited by large toothy creatures like Black Bear, 300 pound hogs and wild packs of dogs. Equally comforting in sketchy urban areas, highway rest stops and 3 Star hotel rooms. Accurate, just heavy enough to dampen the recoil of the most powerful hunting rounds with 11 rounds on board backed by 15 round magazines. The one gun that I carry from my front door, road trip, hiking, fishing, hunting and back home. YMMV.

I have a G20 and G29. I don't shoot the larger G20 any better and can always use the 15 round magazines in the smaller G29. As a result the G20 hasn't been used much since buying the G29. It is basically the same size as the G19 or G23, but a little thicker which causes problems for some people.

For woods carry it is my favorite. I have DoubleTap 200gr hardcast loads that chrono 1300 fps from my G20 and 1250 fps from the G29. The G29 is enough smaller that I don't care about the 50 fps. It is 2" shorter and a full pound lighter than a magnum revolver with 4" barrel with more power and ammo. If 2 legged threats are a concern then there are many good ammo choices.

While it is carryable, if not in the woods where 4 legged predators are a concern I don't think the power of 10mm is warranted. In those situations I feel just as comfortable with a smaller, lighter gun in 9mm or 45. But if I could only take one handgun to cover all bases the G29 would be it.

I had one and didn't care for it. Just too short and chunky, making it uncomfortable to carry. A full-size 1911 carries much better for me, even though it's larger and heavier. I also had no problem carrying a G20. I think spreading the mass out helps, vs. concentrating a small "chunk" against one's hip.

I didn't find it uncomfortable to shoot with any load I tried. Probably the best "carry" loads I found were the 175 gr. Silvertip, and the Hornady 180 gr. JHP. OTOH, Federal 180 gr. Hydrashock shot almost the exact same velocity as their .40/180 load in a G23. So I'd skip that one if you're looking for more power than what a .40 will give you.

I used the Pierce pinkie extension on the mags, and found they would pinch my finger when shooting. I don't have that issue with the Pierce extenders on my G27.

I found the shorter barrel gives around 100 fps less velocity with most loads I tried, compared to a 5" 1911, FYI.

I like the 10mm (just bought a 10mm revolver), I just didn't care for the G29.
YMMV.

Too fat, for a little pistol.

Shooting decent name brand ammo, it's hardly more powerful than a .40S&W. I'd rather carry a G23.4, 22.4, or 27.
Underwood loads hot stuff and I load my own too. While the short barrel isn't optimal for the cartridge, I'm guessing it will leave 40 S&W in the dust if loaded properly.

Most 10mm factory ammo is loaded like crap as far as powder charge.

The G29 is your choice by default for a less than full size 10mm. That is unless CZ brings back the 10mm Dan Wesson Classic Commander Bobtail (and if you’ve ever shot one of these like I did, you would probably agree as do I that CZ & DW most definitely should bring back this one. I know I guy back in PA who owns & shoots both, and while the G29 is a great pistol on its own merits, it sure ain’t a DW!

No it definitely isn't. I have this Sig for my full sized needs though.

It's funny though. The G29 holds two more rounds than the Sig.

I have a G29 gen3. It is a great shooter. The capacity is good, I use G20 mags for reloads.
I carry it in a Desantis Speed Scabbard at about 4 o clock.

Works great for me.
I do wish glock would make a G36 sized 10mm

I'm also debating on a Glock 29 purchase.

For a gun compact enough to wear OWB with normal length shirts (untucked) but with a higher round count and more than avg power to be worth the trouble of making sure my shirt or jacket is always covering it.

I've debated a few different options but already owning a Glock 20, I have holsters and 4 spare 15rnd mags to fit it and I love 10mm so it seems like the way to go.

GarrettJ speaking on it being small and clunky and all of its weight focused in one area and the Pierce grip ext. pinching fingers causes concern. I'm curious to how common these issues are with other owners? Especially the finger pinching? I would without doubt add an extension so that's why I'm curious.

Funny, every time I try a magazine extension I dislike it. I guess My carry guns have gotten me used to the pinky dangle.

I like the Glock extension on my Glock 43. My back up mag has a Pierce +2 ext and even though it gives me room to spare on the grip and feels ok, it's not great. I like the factory ext better. It kinda keeps my grip bunched in tight and in place.

From what little I've handled a Glock 29 I think something similar to what's on my G43 would feel way better and not take up much more room or print enough to tell the difference.

More than that, I don't want it to bite me every time I fire a shot either. That's why I want the gun, so nothing bites me!

I have a Glock 29. I carried it in a Comp-Tac CTAC, IWB holster and it concealed well with that thin holster.

My chronograph readings for Underwood ammo:
180gr XTP : 1263, 1266, 1255, 1253, 1299 : avg 1267 ft/s 640 ft-lb
180gr GD : 1231 1199 1211 1224 1207 : avg 1214 ft/s 588 ft-lb
200gr XTP : 1133, 1120, 1141, 1153, 1170 : avg 1143 ft/s 579 ft-lb
220gr HC : 1075, 1082, 1084, 1104, 1094 : avg 1088 ft/s 577 ft-lb

It met its need as a "travel" gun and a woods gun. However, I replaced it with a 10mm 1911 and will either give it to a family member or sell it. I just don't like Glocks.

I've carried a Gen 3 for over a dozen years. It seems to conceal well enough. I don't have any plans on replacing it with anything else anytime soon. I've shot many different loads and like the Winchester 175 grain Silvertips best although Hornady Critical Duty are nice too. For handloads I usually use 165 and 180 grain bullets but, as GarrettJ wrote, the short barrel does reduce velocity some. I use the Pearce extensions as well and recommend them. I also have a .40 S&W barrel from Storm Lake I use when I don't want to concern myself with picking up brass. In short, I don't think it's everything a 10mm Auto could be, but it does a good job for it's size.

I've been waiting for SA to come out with their XDM 10, but It hasn't materialized.

I also recently acquired a 10 mm Carbine that takes G20 mags, so now I'd like to add a pistol that accepts those magazines.

I'm no longer debating the purchase of a G29. I went ahead with the purchase. I did get 2 Pierce ext's, bought a Gen 4 so I have one flush fit mag and the 2 with extensions. I haven't shot it yet thanks to this rain but should compliment my G20 just fine.

I ordered a 29 this afternoon. :D

The last one I had was about 15 years ago. Never should have sold it. 10mm is not the monster that people make it out to be and the 29 handles even the full house loads very well.

Added bonus, if the range is crowded and I want to shoot alone, all I have to do is bring the 29. LOL

No it isn't. But it is rather snappy, and some folks may not shoot it particularly well.

When I first started shooting, the first auto-loader I bought was a 40 S&W. I got rid of it because I believed it was too snappy, and I really couldn't shoot it terribly quickly. I switched over to 45 acp, and later picked up shooting 9mm also9mm. Training with those guns got me ready for last year where I dove into 10mm.

I gave up on 40 S&W too fast, but I don't regret it at all. I now have a variety of guns to shoot in a variety of cartridges and 10mm seems rather reasonable to me now that I know how to drive an auto-loader.
