I am looking to possibly upgrade the barrel on my 10/22 Take down. I am wondering if anyone can link some ideas to good barrels that are sub MOA accurate. I am looking to get a barrel that will shoot a dime at 100 yards or better.

I do already have a decent Vortex Optic (Crossfire II 4-12x) and a nice laminate stock will be the next upgrade so I can go heavy or standard barrel sizing on the replacement barrel. I have seen a couple I like but nothing says how accurate they actually are and they seem to run $200-$350 ish on average.

Ya, unfortunately, you're going to pay a premium and your choices are much more limited for the Takedown 10/22 as it is a newer model and the attachment mechanism is more complex. I would be wary of this guns ability to hold zero with a receiver mounted scope as well to the degree you are wanting.....the Takedown is really meant to be a fun, compact plinker rather than a bench-sniper, note how the iron sights are actually mounted ON the barrel.o_O Some of the aftermarket barrels have a rail on them....but once again, extra $$$ and flex might be an issue. Several of these have devices to snug them against the receiver, but at even higher cost, complexity, and you lose the quick- release feature.

You may want to start over with a regular 10/22- vastly more and cheaper options out there to turn this gun into what you are looking for. Either way, good luck!

The take down was a gift from the husband. I kinda want to set it up to come down. but at the same time I will probably leave it together. I was looking at a couple barrels with the rail mounted to it and was leaning towards that. Even if I break it apart now it will not fit in the bag because the optic is a full size scope. This is partially what is lending me to just leaving it together.

This is the stock I am looking at for it.

I kinda liked the mag pul one.. but at the cost of sounding like a total girlie girl... does not come in pink or purple.. lol I kinda fell in love with the pink laminate stock for it..

I Plasti-Dip coated a twenty two for my daughter. She wanted dark blue with sparkles. A joy to me, they make that! A light spray of pearl down one side for the Milky way and a silver Sharpie pen to put stars and a galaxy on it. We take it camping. She named it "Starry":)

It feels just like Houge over-molding. It is fairly durable, but shows scratches, and is very inexpensive. The best part is if the finish is showing wear, or one becomes bored with the color, it will peel right off! Leaving a perfectly clean surface. I made a wax Remington 'seal' from the coating on mine. I decided black was better.;)

I want to make this clear right off; I don’t think any 10/22 TD will consistently shoot a dime at 100 yards. Secondly, beyond mechanical accuracy and limitations inherent to the design, you’ll really need to be up on reading wind at that distance.

Now, as the owner of a TD (ok it’s my son’s) if I were looking to maximize potential and I might add with minimal risk, this is what I would try: https://www.1022rifle.com/product/ruger-takedown-16-25/. Feddersen offers a money back satisfaction guarantee and they are fantastic shooters. If that barrel doesn’t get you in the ballpark then refer to my above disclaimer.

Finally I’ll offer that I fully agree with the previous posters that the Take Down is better suited as-is or with a Magpul stock, perhaps topped with a mini red dot sight. My son stuck with a 2-7 x Nikon that fits the bag and I made him try out the irons and RDS first.

Ok, one last thing, thank your husband and tell him that you need a true 100 yard contender so he’s ordering you this when it’s back in stock https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog...cts_id/3328/CZ-USA+455+VAR+EVO+17HMR+PINK+LAM

Went plinking today with the hubby. Was the first time I got to shoot more than about 75 yards with the take down he got me.. We shot the lids from our drinks at 135 yards at an uphill slope. He was using his standard 10/22 and I was using my 10/22 take down.. I shot the one on the left getting the head shot on the lizard, he shot the other one. =D We were using CCI mini mags.

That shot was with the standard pencil barrel that comes on it. I am sure I could do better with a match barrel on there.

Green mountain may be able to make one for you if you give them a call. The owner is really receptive and had done some custom ar15 barrels on a group but I did. Worth a shot if you don't find any options as they do make 10/22 barrels. Probably won't be cheap

Thank you!! Did not think of them.. I should have.. I worked with them a bit on a few deals when I worked for a firearms manufacturer for a few custom builds we did for people. I will have to reach out to them..

Thank you! This is my second one.. My last one was just as accurate.. I was at the range with a friend and went 2 for 2 shooting flies with the last one.. friend refused to play accuracy games with me after that.. he said something about not even fair or right.. lmao My hubby found out about that day and my love of my last one that I was forced to sell so he got me this one to replace it.. loving it!! so is why I am looking at upgrading from the factory barrel and putting on the pink laminate stock.. =D

Sorry, first I didn’t clarify; the scope is mounted with Warne QR rings and is stowed in the backpack, not on the receiver. Secondly, it is a fixed 4x Nikon, couldn’t tell you what model. I bought these on clearance a few years back from Gander, one 4x and two 2-7x, all in camo, and all sharing the same overall dimensions.

The 2-7 ended up on his T/C Impact.

The other 2-7 resides on my old Knight Wolverine.

Back to the thread; OP if you meant to headshoot the lizard then how would a target barrel do better? If you can hit that 10 out of 10 times at that distance then I’d say first never sell or modify that rifle and second buy a true target rifle and compete.

I was going for center. It was just funny that I got him in the head. I was able to hold groups I could cover with a quarter on paper at 100 yards consistently with the current set up. I was able to do so with my last take down as well. They are more accurate than people like to give them credit for when locked up properly.

I will say when you tear everything down to include the optic you are blowing your accuracy out the water.. You pretty much have to re-zero every time you re-assemble..

This one I am leaving in one piece and not taking down. My last one I did take down, but I kept a nice solid lock up on it and never removed the optic.. I just had to verify and/or make small adjustments.

A stock CZ455 will shoot dime sized groups, all day long, at 100 yards, with good ammo.

I agree with both of these statements. They jibe with my own experience regarding a proper, snug lock up and leaving the scope (in my case, a UTG 3-9x32mm BugBuster) in place.

I love CZ's, own several, have had several more, have shot against or with many others, but dime sized groups at 100 all day long is an exaggeration. A dime is .7" in diameter....Sure, it might happen every now and then, but consistently? No way.

Thank you for pointing out one of several exaggerations I’ve read lately.
