I'm looking for a front sight post that is thinner than standard. I believe that the standard post is 0.070 inches wide and I'm looking for something around 0.050 instead. I'd like to find one that is either square or rounded. I bought a few online but when they arrived they turned out to be rectangular. What I mean by that is that when looking at it from the top down they were thin one direction but not the other, or only thin on one side.

I am wondering if such a beast (square and thin) exists and if so where to find it?

They used to have something exactly like that on midway but it's been discontinued...

Thanks in advance

I don't like the idea of buying a set of 7 just for the 1 sight I actually want. And with the KNS sights they're only thin at the top, I'd prefer one that is the same width for it's entire length. The round sight that LunchMoney found might be the best option. I actually have one rifle set up with the discontinued DPMS sight and I really like it, so does my wife. She's asking for the same sight to be installed on her rifle, which is what prompted me to start this thread (when I realized I couldn't buy the DPMS sight anymore).

"Do you have a file?"

Yeah but I'm not confident I could do it right, would probably end up with a lop-sided sight when I was done.

The standard front sight post on an A2 is a square at .072.

I stoned down my front sight to .052 and, I used a micrometer and stoned each side down .010, the micrometer anvil helps to keep it square, go slow.
I use a .032 aperture rear or .042 depending on the light.
If my math is correct with the sight radius my front sight appears as 10.3MOA and was 14.3MOA with the original .072 sight.

Here is an interesting forum post, maybe I'll go back to .072 and see if I like it any better.

I shoot at 4MOA steel at 200, 300, 400 and the black in the High Power targets run from 4MOA to 6MOA for those ranges.

I bought the KNS set myself. The one I wound up sticking with isn’t the one I would have bought as a single for that rifle and I have used others on rifles for different purposes. So, I guess, I am glad I wasted the money.

I have the KNS set as well. You might find that you don't like the post you think you want quite as much as you might think. I have experimented by switching the front sight post on my AR carbine several times. As I also have a Ruger 10/22 with a Tech Sight front sight that uses an A2 threaded front post, I have been able to use this set to modify two front sights.

Thanks imashooter this is exactly what I'm looking for, just ordered 2, can't believe the shipping fee though, $9.43 seems like alot for parts this small/light...

Just for the heck of it I bought a round one from Blitzkrieg Components too. She can try both and decide which she likes better, and then we'll have spare sights in case we do any future rifle builds...

Good deal. Shipping's tough at times but at least they had what you hopefully needed and it wasn't insanely priced. I once purchased 2 detents (small ball bearings) for a set of locking hubs. Sole source of course. Seems like it was around 10.00 shipping but I had no choice at the time. Still haven't gotten over that one. Detents were like 1.12 for two.

Rock River Arms recently had a 20% discount going. I bought a 0.050” front post for $6.50 plus shipping. About $9.50 IIRC.
It’s the same sight post as on my RRA NM AR15, so my A2 for the Modern Military matches has same sight picture.
